RICER?!?!?!?!?
Since when is a BMW a Ricer?..... I was at work and someone brought up the hot topic of my car which everyone asks about all the time.... Then this guy (who I absolutly hate) chimes in and says oh what did you get? I replied the new 1series BMW. Then he said "oh your getting a Ricer".....WTF?!?!?! I was like "oh is that so and what would you get?" He said "I would get a mustang or something with alot more horsepower". I asked him if he knew the 128i has no turbos and has more horsepower than the base model mustang, sets better gas milage, and has a 3.0liter compaired to the mustangs 4.0liter.... He just looked at me like an idiot and didnt know what to say and just kinda drifted back and walked off.

I don't think I've ever seen a BMW "ricer". Those cars tend to be cheaper Japanese and Koren cars with lots of mods that do more to change the look and sound of the car then they do to change the performance. And it's from that stereotype that the term came from. I've yet to see a BMW with a big, ugly wing, hideous body kit, coffee-can exhaust, gaudy rims etc.
Perhaps to some, any non-American car is rice, but I've seen some pretty ugly modded mustangs and corvettes in my day, so I don't really agree.

Oh you can definitely turn a BMW into a "ricer", but they don't come that way from the factory. I don't think your "friend" understands what the term means.

I really dislike the racial overtones of the word, but can someone clarify exactly what a "ricer" is? I've always understood it to be a heavily modded Honda, Toyota, Mazda or Subie. Not sure how a German car fits into that, so I'm not sure why you'd even bother to respond, or even less why you'd bother to be offended.
It's one of those idiotic terms, like "chick car": nobody really knows what it means or agrees on a common definition and it is only used to make other people feel insecure about their choice of car. Really is a low level of discussion.

Somewhere - on the inter-tubes - there is a 'BMW Hall of Shame' for tarted up BMWs found worldwide. I can't seem to find that site (and in a much earlier post I referenced it - but that was last year or so and I'm too lazy to look at the moment ; -).

Don't know what a ricer is?? Ricer - A person who makes unecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to): - Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder - Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747 - Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool |
