I would hold off ..
Vista is coming out soon (we hope!) and anything you buy now, even top of the line, is going to struggle. I've been running the betas for some time now and this thing is a RESOURCE HOG. |

So far, I liked. Was running very slow when I installed first time on Microsoft Virtual PC. When I reinstall Vista on VMwere (another virtual workstation) - runs great. No single crush yet. O , yes, and I'm running Windows Vista on 512 MB of RAM

processor itself, I am running the same on my test box and there are times when it struggles. theres more to a machine than just the processor and memory. vista dumps the entire interface on the GPU instead of the processor so your going to need a very good directx compliant vid card. also takes advantage of the latest hardware such as native command queuing on sata II drives. if you remember, when XP first came out there was a ton of hardware that was 'XP ready' but the truth of the matter is it took a couple months for the hardware manufacturers to really catch up to what was needed to run xp well. disclaimer - this is all my opinion after years of beta testing ms oses from the days of win95. i myself am holding off ... |
