Servicing for x23d

My 23d is showing oil is due its first change. Is it worth having car serviced by BMW dealership at highly inflated prices? I’ve been quoted around £430 for basic oil change and mircofiter. Is this worth it?

I used to pay around £50 for my beat up VW in a local garage.

Any reputable BMW service speacilist in Yorkshire/Manchester?

Also is Service inclusive worth it for £1250? Has anyone used this service and how much saving does it offer?

Only if you have to keep the warranty
Otherwise just make sure you get good oil and filters. And I wouldn't wait for "Due service" mark on the board with twin turbo. I changed my first oil on 10000 km this year. For me it's much cheaper and easier than servicing the turbine later I will do the due service at the dealer next year to make sure my warranty is ok.

So you’re saying the manufacturers warranty is void if I get car serviced by anyone else other than BMW dealership?

You can get your car serviced at an independent garage but to keep the warranty it must be with approved parts and be serviced to the manufacturers schedule. Some specialist Indy’s have access to BMW servers and are able to log the service has been done. If I remember correctly a law was passed in the UK allowing servicing outside of dealer networks

Warranty claims should still be honoured but would be more clear cut if maintained by BMW themselves

Do you know where I can source genuine BMW or approved parts from?

I would say from the dealers. If you go onto BabyBMW website, Cotswold BMW do an online service under the sellers section. You can say what you want and they will give you a price normally within a couple of days. I’ve found that they are normally cheaper than my local dealer

https://www.babybmw.net/forums/cotswold-bmw.49/

And keep all receipts and paperwork for everything

I took the fixed price service on mine when I bought the car and it covers for 5 years. It wasn’t £1250 when I took it, cost me £1138 at the time. Covers servicing, brake fluid changes and mot

Any garage's service quality is only as good as the individual completing or responsible for it. The 'Motor Vehicle Agreements Block Exemption Order (MVBEO)' is the legislation that was created for more competition for the servicing and repair sector and therefore somewhat protects the owner's rights assuming that it's been serviced and repaired to the manufactures standards, and with approved OEM parts etc.

If a vehicle is subject to a finance agreement, I would check that the small print does not state where it must be serviced, as the vehicle isn't technically owned by the registered keeper.

I've also had it suggested that when it comes to selling the car, dealerships *could* adjust the price offered for a service history that isn't BMW, etc, as they can't guarantee the level of work carried out.

Very cunning of BMW to try and basically lock you into using dealerships services. If I went independent, how would I keep the official record as they haven’t even supplied a stamp booklet to keep record of service history. I can get genuine parts and labour done for under £200 compared to dealerships £426 for first service. But I risk voiding my warranty seems like.

As I mentioned, check if the specialist has access to record the service via the BMW system, some do.

With a car under warranty I would always have it serviced by a main dealer. £430 for first service doesn’t seem too bad to me, especially as it can be up to 19k miles or 24 months.

Yes you can have it serviced by an indie legally, as long as they use the correct parts and follow the service schedule, it’s just a personal preference of mine.

Firsty call a few dealers they don’t all charge the same, yes an independent BMW specialist can service the car and update it’s been serviced.

If you service later it appears in the internal record, this happens to be post Covid so it lists I was 3 months late but was done at a main dealer.

We managed to negotiated the 5 year plan for less than half the price, when bought originally it was £900 inflation is so crazy it’s why it’s already showing extra so locking in early was prudent when I look back.

As others have mentioned when under warranty there is some benefit to just getting it done at a main dealer, just shop around.
