Wrecked '96 ti sport
Hey everyone, my first time on e90post.com. I wish it was for better reasons...
When my father in law passed he left his 318ti sport for my son to drive. 3 days later my son wrecked it. I am trying to figure out what to do with it: -Has about 86K of baby'ed miles -Always garaged -Clean interior -almost brand new tires (Michelin) -newer brakes -all synthetics, always -black -Sport /M-package -Pioneer CD Player It stills runs like a top, everything still works except the power windows (passenger side because the door was munched in the wreck, driver side is unhooked because it kept jumping the track). It is still drivable but I wouldn't take it very far. It was t-boned on the passenger side. Insurance says it's about 4,200 bucks in damage. it still tracks straight, the hatch, hood, and driver's side door all still line up nicely and open/close nicely. I don't have a good pictures of it yet but will soon I hope. What do you guys think I should do? I do not think the title is salvaged yet. I think if I sell it, before they do any judgments on it we can avoid it. I do not have the means to repair it myself but it is way too nice a car (even now) to just sell to a wrecker or part out... What do you guys think? |

318ti as in the hatchback 3er? not sure there's a market here for that, most people on this forum think it's hideous...no offense. i could be wrong though, but either way if it has $4800 in damages it wouldn't be worth much...pay your deductible and drive it.
edit: just checked kbb and the car is only worth $2500

Actually, there's a website and forum dedicated to these: www.318ti.org. I like the E36 318ti and looked long and hard for a good one before settling for the Smart, but couldn't find a black 5-spd with Cali roof (or Clubsport) in decent shape.

318ti is quickly becoming a collectors car. Bimmer mag did an article on them recently. One of the select BMW who's aftermarket price is rising.
Consider contacting your local BMWCCA and getting their advice. Most of the knuckleheads here are too young to appreciate the Ti. |

Hey some good news! Somebody on another forum said it depends on if the roof and the rockers are damaged. The roof still looks good (it does have a factory sunroof). I am pretty sure the rocker is OK, but will have to check.
I need to post pictures... |

Look at replacing the panels...a clean ti Sport with the sport interior is going up in value. Like the above post said, check out 318ti.org, you can get alot of advice there. (most will probably want you to part the car out)..and don't drop an S52 into either

So check this out, I found a '95 318ti online for cheap (well under a grand). It's dead with a bad timing chain. How hard would it be to put my engine into a 95? Is 95 OBDII? I know smog would not like the newer engine in an older car, but i would think they wouldn;t check the numbers if the car looks stock... right? Worse case scenario, i cut the 95 up, part the rest out and fix mine...
