looks cool but i don't understand why everyone is hiding their v1 making all these stealthy setups when it is totally legal in most of the states... it looks fine mounted up on windshield w/ hardwire.

Why would one have a detector? Just to hear beeps? No. To avoid speed traps now why would someone want to avoid speed traps? Because they're speeding Thus, s/he may also be breaking other laws So it makes you a target Also, a target for thieves as well (for people who hide their portable navi etc)

They are illegal in Virginia. So if you live there or travel through it, it's a PITA. Also, detectors ARE illegal in any commercial vehicle in ANY state.
This app does not turn your iPhone into a V1, or any other radar detector. The iPhone does not have the hardware to detect radar or laser. What it does do is connect to a database of speed traps that is constantly updated and warn the driver if he is approaching one. NOT a radar detector.

What does this do exactly? It just beeps if your V1 detects a radar?
Or does it it let you know when somebody else's radar detector up ahead of you detects something?

Radar ambush alerts - alternatives
Yup,but it echos the V1 display via the remote display port on the V1. It's an app that uses the phone GPS to tell you when you are approaching a known radar trap. IMHO Trapster is superior as it covers speed cameras and tells you where the cops actually ARE at the moment based on other user's live reports. ALSO you can download the same database of known radar ambush spots for FREE into your existing Garmin or Magellan GPS as a Points-Of-Interest (POI) file. You get the same proximity alerts. The locations go stale over time so you have to update occasionally. This also works for your preferred brand of bank/gas station, or other places you'd want alerts for when you're nearby (starbucks?). Useful in unfamiliar surroundings. I guess you missed MY sarcasm Mr. Smarty Pants who seems to know EVERYTHING about iPhones and EVERYthing else ![]() Quote:
(spelled out: people like to hide it for various reasons; one may be so it doesn't get stolen, another may be so that cops don't bug you) So... someone posts a nice video about a cool/useless app (depending on who you talk to)... and then someone doesn't understand why people want to hide it... and then someone (me) says it may be due to (Read above) So what was missed? Also, how was the sarcasm missed? Then again... you yourself don't seem to understand sarcasmmmmm sooo I guess it's fair to see why you feel it was missed :P Enjoy your trolling ![]()
