Granturismo Arcade Machine. Should I?
Hey guys,
Going through a friend's factory and found a demo GranTurismo Arcade system that he built for Sony a while back when they were promoting the GT prologue. I really want this but not sure how much i should offer my friend. How much would you pay for this? Anyone want it in case i back out? Ed Lin

That's pretty cool!
What's the name of your friends company? Just curious.... I'm sort of in the same industry. Trust me when I say that he has way more into it than you'll be willing to pay. LOL. |

I've tried to buy several arcade systems but my wife is a complete buzz kill and says we can't have an arcade game in the living room. I'd agree with Feyd though, I bet you don't want to shell out what it would take to get it from him.

I know a company that makes these and sometimes they sell it for a few hundred bucks cause it's just taking up space. They put a lot of money into it but the company that asked them to build it already paid for it. Just ask him how much he'd let it go for.

Haha.. no idea really... Lots of factors go into making something like this. Depending on how they charge for development (design/engineering) and if those costs are seen as a line-item on the invoice vs. amortized across production. Also, other outside factors regarding the complexity of the mock up will be major contributors to it's original cost. For Example: Is it a working coin-op prototype? Or just a playstation in a pretty box? But, just based on raw materials and what I think would amount to at least 25-30 man hours of fabrication, $8k is probably at the lower end of what a 1-off of something like that costs to make. I'm in this conundrum all the time because there is a perceived value to things like this and often times (at least in the client's eyes) it is about 30% of what it actually costs. My company manufacturers Kiosks/POP displays, etc. out of wire/steel/plastic/wood, etc. and prototypes are just expensive... especially when you amortize hundreds and hundreds of hours of creative/engineering into the job. You end up with an $8 wire counter unit that has morphed into a $30 wire counter unit because of the countless rounds of rendering and reengineering. And when someone wants to order 10,000 units, pennies (sometimes fractions of pennies) can make or break the job... Of course I don't have to tell you the kind of reaction you get when there is a $220,000 increase to the cost of running production. |

Very interested to see how much this thing cost to produce (and what you get it for) |
