New Toys
Just picked up a brand new 5D Mark II and a 135 F2.0 L lens. I am SO stoked, especially about the lens. I've been pretty much "retired" from photography for the past 2 years, but I decided to get back into the game. The 135 is going to make for a sick portrait lens on a full frame sensor, and it will be great for shooting video, too.

Whoa. I'd need a 60-month load to buy such a rig.
Get some pics up. I'd love to see what it can do.

Nice pick up! I think that's gonna be my next camera body. Still working with the 40D right now.....
Did you come from a crop sensor? Do you notice not having as much reach with full frame?

I've had 1.3 (1D MkII) and 1.6 (20D, 30D, 40D) crop cameras. Since I mostly take photos of cars I prefer wider angles.
If my purchase were 100% for photographic use I would have bought a 7D and the EF-S 10-22. But I am also replacing my HD camcorder with the 5D, and I want all of the depth of field a full frame sensor offers. I also wanted the full 21 megapixels of the 5D2 because I am interested in doing a coffee table book. I am not baller enough to afford a 1DS Mark 3 or a medium format digital back. |

Awesome pick up FStop7! I think I'm going to save up and wait for when the new 5D Mark III gets announced sometime next year. I'm still shooting with my old 20D.
bmwmthree, regarding your sig, the Technicolor Dreamcoat episode was hilarious!

Cool, I got the same lens today. The 135 f/2L is my first prime L lens.
But I've got it on my 7D. Looks amazing so far. Oh, and Seinfeld is the best sitcom ever.

I also don't like using flashes. At all, period. I'd rather use artificial lighting and/or fast lenses and high ISO. |

Primes are fine, I own an incredible 500mm f/4L IS, BUT there's no quality sacrifice with zooms when you consider the lens correction that you can now automatically do as part of RAW conversion. Primes are great to fullfil a special need, like fast aperture or compact size, but those that think that they're needed to achieve top image quality are still shooting with film.
The OP's new lens is a stunning lens. I chose the 70-200mm f/4L IS for its great IQ, compact size and flexibility. I use it with and without the 1.4x TC, depending on potential subject matter. My 5D MkII has great high-ISO performance, so I don't need the extra speed of an f/2.8 or faster. Just some thoughts to consider when chosing lenses. Dave

Congrats on the new pickup! I'm waiting out for the 5D MKIII myself, as well as the 24-70 USM II. I'm really itching for a 5D for its FF and HD video, but my XHA1 with Letus Extreme should hold me off for a bit...
Post some pics taken with your new setup! |

Picked up a 17-40 F4L...
Next up: 70-200 F2.8 IS Mk 2... gonna have to save up for that one. But that plus a 1.4 teleconverter (which I can also use with my 135 F2L) will give me a pretty well rounded set of lenses to work with in most situations. |

Make sure you get the MKII of the teleconverters. Why go 1.4x when you can go 2x for a few bucks more? You found a used one Seth? Where did you get it from, and if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay?

I just haven't opened it yet, because I'm still deciding if I should wait for the MKIII.
