Voting method for future photo contests
This was up for discussion earlier this month, but I'm not sure we reached a decision. Please voice your opinions on whether you would like voting to anonymous or not, and whether you would like each person to have a single vote or multiple ones.
Personally, I feel that giving the opportunity for multiple votes is better. This allows people to vote for 1 or a couple. I feel like this tease can out the victor more easily. Anyways, this poll ends Monday morning when I create the voting thread for the latest contest #31.

1 vote just like everyone had in this thread.
Don't make me get the ACLU on you. Or call Jesse Jackson down from WI.

i was kind of tossed but between anonymous and identified..... so i tossed a coin.
i can see the merrit in each, and it might be good because of tie breaking, for example if 2 people have the same number of votes, but the one person voted for themself and the other didn't, then that would be a good indicator/decision maker in my opinion. |

Identified with 1 only.
Multivote makes picking less involving. I'd rather think hard on which picture deserves my vote instead of handing out votes to a batch of similar-quality shots.

I voted for multiple votes. Still, with a contest like the current one, with only 4 entries at this point, 3-votes would result in a strange result. Usually we have way more entires and multiple votes would not be an issue, but this current contest is "special".

I guess we could make an option where if there are less than X number of submissions, we do single votes, otherwise we do multiple votes. It seems like half of us want it one way and the other half want it another way. The alternative is that the person who made up the contest decides? What sucks is that it might be confusing and obviously not consistent between contests.

I did a small calculation... based on all the previous contests, the average # of submissions was 16 photos. The minimum was 5, and the maximum was 39. Maybe make the 1-vote cutoff be 10 or a dozen or 15?

interesting outcome.... In the situation we have been given with only a few samples, the single vote defintitely wins.
but with the 39 sample, it's pure lose as everyone is just going to vote for their own, or we are going to end up with a 10 way tie of 2 votes on 10 pictures. I agree 6 or less would be a good starting point, but it seems like a random number. lol, Chewy, maybe it's time for another poll |
