Why does it take 5-6 hour for them to change oil?
Why does it take 6 hours to do an oil change when they quote me just an hour of work . That's the reason why they told me they don't do loaners or rental service because of the short amount of work on the car-"I can wait for it." Five hours later I'm still waiting for it. Bear in mind that i was the 2nd car in line at 6:45 am and had made the reservations 1 month ago. Can anyone shed some light here?

The dealers always have a line of people wanting to service their cars. You drop the car off at 7am, they probally don't have someone working on it until 10 or 11am. I think they arrange the cars in order of service needed. So just because you were second in line, you were probally down on the list for the service department. The oil change itself is super easy and shouldn't take the dealer more than half an hour, but when you take it to the dealer, get ready to wait.
EDIT: when I took my car in for the alarm install, they told me it would take all day. I was there at 7am. I dropped by the dealership later around 1pm, it was done. The alarm install does not take 5 hours either. Danny

Does BMW dealership check for anything else when they do oil changes?
I remember japanese dealerships inspect basic stuff when people come in for oil changes. If not, just do it yourself.

Perhaps it's the dealer? My oil changes were always done in about 30-45 minutes. I recently went in for another service (someone tried to steal my E46 so I needed the driver's side lock cylinder replaced, as well as the plastic piece around it  ). That service only took 30 minutes, which is the time they quoted me. And this covers two different dealerships.

perhaps they allow for a diagnostic check and if they need to attend to anything, they have a little time to do so.
a agree that there are a number of cars needing service at any time and some urgent jobs may take priority at times. they are probably allowing for all these contingencies. main thing is they did a good job for you. sorry about the wait.

Because they SUCK! I always change my own oil. I imagine they only check "other things" at scheduled intervals, not when you simply come in for an early oil change(<15k miles). Besides, you don't ever really know if they changed your oil or not when you go in between intervals.

Hmm, kinda think of it, My oil meter reads the same when I dropped my car off at the dealer. 1 bar short of "max. wouldn't you think they would fill it up althe way to max, like it was when I picked it up brand new? |

I wouldn't put up with that crap. Having to wait 5-6 hours on a quote of 1-2 hours is retarded! I would go to a different dealer if one is close enough. If not, I would complain to a higher person than the one who "helped" you. Even if they did have to do other things besides the oil change, they should still inform you about the potentially longer wait. I would be so pissed at them.

the problem is too many bmws not enough dealerships thats the key to all of this. bmw doesnt do jack shit but change ure oil and thats it. unless u ask them to check something they wont. they are too busy and stingy. toyota everytime i take my tacoma no appointment needed oil change in 30 min or less or its free. plus they rotate my tires and wash the car inside and out. super legitimate. RIPS ON BMW SERVICE any day.
