Just raced a new EVO tonight on the freeway.

First of all , my car is stock.

We went from 60 mph and by the time I hit 120 mph he was about 1 - 1 1/2 car lengths behind me.

Just wanted to share...

I was just impressed... I always knew the EVO is a fast car and it really is, but I guess the 335 is little faster!!!

And FYI, Evos suck from rolls, unless they have a bigger turbo or at least a boost controller and 272 cams to compensate.

The real question is whether that Evo is an VIII or a IX. Huge diff. in power potential.

thats why I have avoided racing them. All of them in my area are somewhat modified...and all would probably pwn me at this point. So I steer clear.

If this thing lands some kinda ECU tune...then watch out

A stock EVO does anywhere from 13.1-13.7 @ 99-103, which is basically on par with the 335i. So its really just a drivers race....congrats, you pushed the gas pedal first.

Actually, we both pretty much pushed the gas pedal at the same time and after a couple of seconds my car started to pull away...

um evos don't pull on the freeway like German cars bro. ive beat a stock WRX STI in my 330 in the freeway once before. i have 4 people to verify that too. those cars are worthless on the freeway. Hoewever it could obviously be a driver error but i mean i dono my experience is all i can speak for.

Werd - it's been months since I've seen/heard an Evo that didn't have at least a turbo back exhaust with possible ECU tuning to go with it. I wouldn't pick any fights unless i visited Shiv first. Ditto for STi's

You might have some trouble pulling away form a stage 2 EVO IX that traps 114-116 in the quarter.

Anyways, you guys should take it to the track. Street racing is bad..

I pulled on an EVO8 before in my S2000 with 18" rims on the freeway. I think it is possible that a 330i can pull even on it but thats kind of pushing it.

I don't think it would be much of a race with the 335i.

I just ran an E46 M3 from 35mph and I shredded it like nothing (Thanks PROcede ) I gave him the jump and after a couple seconds I floored it in 2nd and it was like he left off or something (he didn't ;D).

that sounds like a stock Evo you ran.

a stock or mildly modded 5spd Evo is worthless after the shift into 5th.

check my thread in which i ran Walked U's 335i.

with my mods now (turbo back, boost controller, tune) i destroyed a 330i on the highway the other day. he asked for it though, i dont street race unless it's for comparisons through set ups (but now even that is no more)

keep in mind a track like the nurburgring isn't very ideal for laptime comparisons, since it's freaking long and there are just too many variations that could influence the laptime.

also the IX clocking 8:11 has the active yaw control, which the US Evo's lack. better or worth is up to debate still, but the point is it ain't the same Evo.

the Evo IX does have the edge around the track for sure (it has the same acceleration as the 335i under 100mph, and the grip and 3 LSD's are lovely), but that's not what the 335i was designed for, just like how the Evo isn't designed for high speed pulls (though it can be competitive)

rally cars don't usually weave through forests of trees at 120mph+
