Driving the Nurburgring

So guys, I have the chance to drive the Nurburgring, but am looking for advice from anyone who has been. It\'s not European delivery, so I\'ll new to rent a car, preferably quick, for autobahn and such, as my trip will be more than just tracking. Anyone done racing schools from that area, etc? General info on your trips would be great, thanks

Were you planning on taking just any rental car on the track? Word is companies have scouts at the 'Ring and look for people taking civilian rental cars on the track and fine you. There are a few companies that will rent you track-prepped cars, so look into that

No I wasn't planning on tracking the rental, but probably doing a separate school that supplied a car at the ring, or renting a track-prepped car there. You been before?

Gotcha. And I almost did. I wasn't old enough for the rentals at the time I we postponed it. I'll probably go either this summer or next.

It's too late to schedule a slot by this point, but I've heard nothing but positives about the AMG driving academy on the Ring.

What was the age limit, as I'll only be 18 at the time? But I'll look around and see what schools I can find

The race car rental places I found had a 21 yr. old limit. That gets you a Suzuki Swift or something else like it.

WOW that video was inspirational. I'm going to Europe over the summer and now I've just added Germany to the list

Do your research on rental policies, companies, etc.. before you go.

Germany is real strict on the age requirements. You might end up being a passenger if you are under 21.

There's a small parking lot to the left of the entrance. Try to make friends with some of the regulars to see if you can ride along.

Others are right about the standard Avis/Hertz rental policies. I wouldn't risk taking one out on the ring.

Have fun! Make sure you check out the small towns around the area. Visit Sabine Schmitz's hotel for lunch. They have a nice buffet.

if you're 18, nobody's going to let you touch anything.

I will and the best part is that I have plenty of cousins in Switzerland and Germany that will lend me a car. The best any of them got, in terms of sporty-ness, is a e46 m3 6mt. The second best is a r32 golf 4 6mt also. So should be very interesting. This is assuming I don't send my own car to Europe.

Also I agree with everyone else, check car rental policies. I know that there are several companies renting out e92 m3's and such but at a steep price. I bet insurance on any car rental place near the ring will be pretty high too.

Yup exactly, when I rented a 911 they warned me about that and I also had to sign an additional agreement stating I would not take the car on the Ring or be severely screwed if I did.

I was looking at RSR today, and they seem pretty good, the offer rentals and various levels of instruction. Looking at a Lotus Exige, plus in car training or convoy training. The age on the form says 18 unless im mistaken.

There are race car rental companies right in the neighborhood. Not sure on age limits as I take my own car. Don't even think on taking a rental on the Ring, there are peeps from time to time who are on the lookout. Check this site best out there'
