Looking to buy a DSLR...questions
Ok..Im starting my summer job this coming monday 6/4 and within 3 weeks will be looking to buy a DSLR camera. Im by no means a camera expert and actually know very little about them. If anyone could reccomend one that would be good for a beginner while still taking excellent quality pics that would be great.
Also maybe a site where I could read up on DSLR and learn the different features, that would be amazing!

I like dpreview.com for their camera reviews. I reecntly purchased a Nikon D40 for less than $600 from Best Buy last April. I like it, but I'm no professional. I want to start getting into photography, but don't have the money or expertise for a great DSLR. A lot of good things come from Canon, like the Rebel XTi.

+1 on dpreview. Both of the camera's you mention are excellent starter SLRs and offer tremendous bang for buck. Go to the store and play with them, see which feels better. Then BUY ONE and start shooting!

Let's not get into a Nikon vs. Canon discussion here. The point is that either of his choices is great for a first SLR, and when it comes down to it, it is not the camera that takes the pictures, it is the person behind it.

I don't feel worthy of a D80 since I just started my foray into DSLR-land. I want to really learn some things instead of having another shiny toy that collects dust. But, I don't see as how you could go wrong with a D80. It's a nice camera from the reviews I have read and the comments at various vendor sites left by happy patrons.

Anytime you want to go toe-to-toe with me on this, just bring it on Nikon guy. (but you're right - this is a matter of religion not objectivity and we will go on forever.)
