First Boeing 787 Dreamliner Flight - Seattle Tokyo
Earlier this week, I flew on the launch flight of ANA´s Dreamliner 787 service from Seattle to Tokyo.
Although we had a delay due to a mechanical problem, the flight was still incredible. I documented every aspect of it with lots of photos (a few are below) so please take a look: ANA Boeing 787 Dreamliner First Flight Seattle to Tokyo Narita – Review Quote:

I like the whole 787 direct flights concept, a direct flight from the east coast to a mid size airport like Prague will be a dream. Not having to catch a connecting flight in let's say Frankfurt to other cities will be dream indeed. I mean Munich isnt bad as a hub but Frankfurt, ugh.
I dont mind the squeaks and rattles during take-offs and landings. I wonder if the new Boeing has some of that same gray interior trim panels with the low rattling sound that seems to vary with the engine rpm's you get on some aircrafts in flight? Anyway, interesting article. |

Very nice article, what a flight. I travel weekly for business; 7/10 of my flights are on regional jets (sometimes propeller planes). I've yet to see a 787!

Thanks. Glad you liked it.
I don't think you'll see 787s replacing the RJs but Delta is replacing RJs with 717s soon. I presume you probably fly USAir given your location, however.

However, I don't think that you will see a dramatic change in flying just based on the 787 alone. Take United, for example. It is deploying the 787 on existing routes and simply substituting aircraft. Since you couldn't buy a 767 recently, it may appear that airlines are trying to create more direct routes bypassing hubs but the economic viability of a route such as the Prague route you mention will only change because of the 20% improved fuel efficiency, not because it's just a smaller plane. Clearly that 20% will help but it's only part of the equation.

it sounds (and looks like) the A380 that Emirates has minus the full on bar in the back.

Very good read and very thorough and well-written article. Really impressed with everything I've heard about the 787 and once they get it's teething problems worked out I think it will be successful for decades to come!

Was there a power plug on there to charge laptops and smartphones? They have them on the new Emirates Airbus planes.
Definitely looks nice but I am not sure if it is better than the Emirates Business class on the new A380 Airbus. Will have to try it out next time. |

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that the 717 production ended a few years ago... Are they replacing them with some old 717s? |
