My wife fell in love with an A6

I live in Germany and had to take my family to the airport so, I decided to rent a car. I could have gotten a new 3 series to rent but, I didn't want to cheat on my baby before it gets here. Anyway I rented an Audi A6 quatro. I must say it is an excellent car. It's quick on the autobaun with its' twin turbo engine. Cruising at 220kph (about 150mph). The only way I knew how fast I was going was by looking at the speedo. My wife fell in love with it and now she wants to get one for herself. She liked all the features on it. I told her just wait till I get my 3. Then maybe she'll change her mind, but for now it's dead set. I must admit that it's a nice car and if she get's it I won't be afraid to be seen in it. Just thought I'd share.

In NA the A6 does not come in diesel (I assume that'S youre twin-turbo reference). However, the A6 is indeed a very nice car - IMHO better than the E class. However, it does not even come close to beating 5 Series for handling. It is also a very big car (good for some but gets minus points in my book as a result).

Definitely not in the same category as the 3 series. Bigger, more expensive, aimed at drivers yearning for the A8 but not quite there. However the A6 is gorgeous inside and out, a true luxury sedan that will be most at home on the interstate.

I think you can get the A-6 with the older S4 twin turbo 6

not a bad car, anytime you get a car that large anyway it's not going to handle incredibly.

probably more expensive than a 3 though

NOT in the new generation - which is the one I think our initial poster is talking about. They stopped making the twin turbo 2.7T because it makes less power than the normal six does and is a gas guzzler.

My mother has an 05 A6 3.2. The cary only comes in a V6 and V8 configuration. Granted the car isn't 50/50 weight distributed like the 5, but the exterior is much more handsome and with the sport package and quattro, the A6 should be right up there with the 5-series. Oh, and for the high end RS6, which is slated for end of the year 2006 I believe, be on the look out for a 5.5 liter lambo engine in it, FRIGHT

No disrespect, but the A6 still has the Audi trademark 60-40 weight split. It is not up to 5 Series standards in handling. Because of its AWD, it makes up for a lot of its dynamic shortcomings but cannot work miracles.

It is however a very nice looking, comfortable, safe car.

I really like the the exterior styling of the current generation Audi...Not sure how to describe it....it is like the entire car is carved out of a single solid block, including the wheels.

If you have 40-44K to spend, get the 330. If you have 48-52K to spend, the A6 3.2 is a no brainer compared to the 5 series. I know, I had one! Suweeeet!

A6 is very nice. I rented the C6 A6 the interior is gorgeous and the exterior is agreeable. Very nice luxury car with decent power and handling. I am not expecting a razor's edge for something that size. When I drove it I just urges me to drive it smoothly and not to be a jackass. It is a very classy car. I just love the interior, did I say that again? Took me only 15 mins to figure out how to use the MMI withouth looking at the manual.

but weight distribution is not everything when it comes down to handling.. it does play a big role though.

I wonder how those A6s handle compare to 5s.

You are right the one I drove was an 06. Yes it was european spec and the thing really moved when you put the hammer down. I agree this can is better suited for the autobaun. It felt like I was driving my old expedition when I was trying to park it. It's probably something you get use to the more you drive it. By the way the car was a diseil (not sure if I spelled it right). I turned the radio down just to hear the turbo spool up when I hit the gas. I like the 5-series but, I would probaly buy the A6 for my wife. It just seems like it has more room than the 5 IMHO. I have also drove the 5 both diesel and gas versions.

I drove the A6 and the 545 back to back last summer. The Audi salesman took me to a deserted parking lot so I could do donuts and "experience quatro." To me there simply wasn't any comparison. Nice car but not a BMW.

sorry for being blunt and some of you may not care for my contribution but,

i think that the A6 is just butt-ugly. it is the epitomy of a bland audi which will always be overdue for a redesign. i think audi, in the efforts of cost cutting, puts a great delay in the redisigning of its models. for christ sake they used that 1.8T engine in the A4 for something like 10 years.

i dont doubt that it drives great and all, but i think that there is just way too little of a direct link between the driver and the car.

id really like to see Audi make a decent normally aspirated engine. i remember when their two models of A4, the 1.8T and 2.8 would go to 60 in the same time, talk about creating value in the upper-level engine model, its just plain stupid.

Audi's are nice cars, but simply not for me. And i think anyone who would take an A6 over an E-Class is out of their minds

My uncle had an A8

This is pretty unbelievable but on two separate occasions when he was on the freeway…
The car locked up
Gas didn’t work and the car started to accelerate out of his control
Couldn’t steer
Couldn’t break

This is obviously not normal but this is the last Audi he will own!

The A6 is a nice car, my cousin has one, but definently not something to compare to the 3 series. Not in the same category.
