Tesla...wow!
Anyone test drive a Model S yet? The stores to order them are starting to pop up around me and I went in to check them out. Beautiful car. 300mile range and 0-60 in 4.2 seconds for a family 4 door sedan.
All the gadgets and gizmos are awesome as well. If anyone gets a chance you should check one out. I am seriously considering one for the wife.

I see several of these every day now and two people I know have bought them. They also have an SUV coming out which will be a real game changer. It's the ultimate soccer mom transporter.

There are two voltage model S. the higher one fully loaded is 81K. Then they make a performance one that has things like auto adjust suspension and some CF goodies. That is 95k. It has a different electronic thingy that makes it a few tenths quicker that is it. I am looking at the Model S with the bigger battery and no performance.

What does a nationwide supercharger network have to do with a soccer mom using it to get around town?

By Xmas this year you should be able to drive across the us for free using all the supercharger stations. They also talk about a battery swap program if you can't wait the 20 minutes to fully charge. 90 second battery swap. They think it will cost around $40 for this.

Without the Supercharger network, or a range extender like the i3 will have as an option, I wouldn't consider an electric car at all. |

That is completely different than what the sales guy said. That sucks and is not as good as I thought. If you were going from point a to point b and had no intent to come back then that would suck.

Snortle. Just to confuse the issue, it appears that even the base 60KwH car can do a 5.1s 0-60.

Inverter was the word he called it. Said it is the only difference between the regular model s and the performance but I am sure inspired will tell me that is wrong as well. I need to introduce him to the sales guy I met.
At the end of the day my post was to share MY experience with how nice I felt this car was. Not turn it into a loserfest of who can search the web best and be a douche. The car is a nice car and I was impressed. Period. Admin you can delete this thread if you want.

Drove a Model S performance on a high speed ring with some nice banked turns going roughly 90, car is composed and very planted. The acceleration is INSANE for a car that weighs 4700lbs. Torque delivery is immediate and flat, almost gives the sensation of a roller coaster. You just press pedal and go, there is no gearbox so no noodling with downshifting etc. The low center of gravity really helps along with air suspension. Unfortunately, I was driving it after someone had done a full autopsy, so the steering was terrible after they put it back together. For a first attempt at an in-house developed car, Tesla did an incredible job. There are some strange omissions (need to turn on lights with MMI for example), especially regarding interior, my Audi interior is nicer IMO. Car exterior is gorgeous in person, especially with OEM 21" wheels. The infotainment is really impressive, pretty much functionally similar to an ipad, though it has some oddities.
The range anxiety is real even if it's rated for 300 miles. Driving it hard will net you around 1/3 the range prescribed, on average, I saw people get about 3/5 the estimated range. They were taking it up and down to speed, some driving more aggressively than others. It charges at around 18 mi/hr from 240V, so if you ever were driving and ran low on charge...forced to stop somewhere with 120V, all I can say is LOL. In the end this isn't meant for people who don't have multiple cars. Their business plan isn't sustainable (ZE credits will become less valuable once other OEMs catch up), and in their heart of hearts they hope people won't be putting tons of miles on these. There's a lot of hype here, so it remains to be seen how they deal with recalls, lemon law's etc...owners are still in serious honey moon stage in a segment that has no competition. |

All I know is the stock has jumped from $20 in a few months to $150+. One of our customers(ups) i see every afternoon and we chat stocks. He owns a 911 and a Prius. He has a very long commute and thinking about getting a telsa but needs the 300 mile range model. However, that's not enough for him when on Fri, heads to the A/C-- shore from work and back up to Pennsylvania....I mess with him(he is also x-Ferrari owner) egg him on to pick up a 2-3 yr old Ferrari and say F****it/ Plus bonus for me, i can park the brown truck for a few minutes and play with floppy paddles in a private lot
