Going to Iraq, should i keep the in production e90?

Hey guys,

I know this may be off topic a tad but i have a dilemma and wanted to know what you guys would do. I have a 325i in production and is awaiting a ship to transport here to the US. ETA is about first or second week of January.

Now, here's the thing. I'm in the Army Reserves and I just got called to be deployed to Iraq. Date of deployment: Jan 29. Length of time there: 1 year to 1.5 years.

My question is: Should i keep or finalize the purchase when my car comes in or should i just say No, i can't buy it and just leave it for a year. This way i can wait for the '07 model. However, I really want to at least have this car. Such a hard dilemma. It's not like the car won't be used and sitting in my driveway. My parents will most likely drive it. Which isn't a good thing considering they know little to nothing about cars...and with any problems...i'd be pissed when i get back.

What do you guys think I should do?

No reason to take it now, especially with all the talk of the changing models, yada yada....

You should wait and finalize a purchase when you come back. Your 325i might be old news by the time you are back........

If I was in your place, I will just cancel the current order and reorder when you come back.

I like r3amir's idea but most likely that won't really happen

I would say cancel the order and get it when you come back in 1/1.5 year. Maybe you can buy the car through the military discount when you return. Take care of yourself out there!

Simply not cost effective (insureance, montly payments, paying interest on a car you can’t drive). Wait until you return and pay for the whole thing in CASH. You will have enough to worry about while you are deploy. The last thing you want to worry about is your car.

Be paitent and cancel it is what I would do
Like BeemMeUp mentioned, its just a huge waste of money and given what you said about your parents, it doesn't seem like anyone is really going to make worthy use of the vehicle let alone trust anybody else besides your parents with such a flash car

Don't want to bring politics into it, but the Iraq war has passed its climax, as much as governments might deny it, a pull-out is likely in the near future. Best of luck, take care and stay safe.

I would definately cancel the order. There is no reason to have an E90 not being used to its full capacity.

Now here is the real reason for my post:

Thanks for serving our Country and put yourself in a potential harm way so that we all here can continue to whine about the "little things". Freedom ain't free. I salute you. Be extremely careful out there, we all are 100% behind you. Take care.

Here here!!!

I don't support the war. I don't agree with our government's foreign policies. I don't think GW is even a halfway decent president. BUT i support our troops 100% they're working every day to support my personal freedom to criticize our government!!!

Stay safe out there and order a new 335i when you get back!!!

thanks guys.
i guess the majority ruling is to cancel it and buy later. but thank you all for supporting me/soldiers. I dunno where you all stand in politics, but i personally dont think bush is doing anything right. I guess i should go ahead and cancel. Unless my other car breaks down and my mom needs a car...then i'll just get my own when i get back. I'm sure by then i'll have $40k in my wallet to buy a bmw.

Thanks and keep up the good info on this e90post.com guys. Your info helped me a lot.

CANCEL CANCEL CANCEL.
You wont be able to use it and you'll be paying for it while it sits in your garage. Secondly, you will be deployed to Iraq with qualifies you for the Military Sales discount. You WILL save at least 4-5 grand on your E90 through mil sales, hands down. Do it while you can..and if you wait, you'll be getting a 335i (hopefully) at the big discount, cant beat it!

I agree with the above posters, and as you mentioned if you absolutely need a car between now and when you get back for your mom of what ever, maybe think about a 2 year lease on a civic or something. Then buy the BMW when you get back and can enjoy it. Otherwise, I'd wait to buy.

Also off topic, but even though the public "supports our troops," it's sure hard to fight for a cause that people don't support. No motivation, you know? In that regard, "I support the troops" really just means "I hope you don't die." Just my two cents.

As for the post, cancel the order...your orders should allow you to get your deposit back too.

I'm not going to get too involved in this thread because unlike most, I have a PERSONAL stake in it with 15 consecutive months invested while leaving some good warriors behind.

Thanks for your service and keep your head down. Pace yourself and don't worry about the Bimmer, the dealer will still be waiting for you when you get back.

If you like, I can look into seeing if you qualify for Military sales since you'll be deployed overseas. PM me if you're interested. (26,900 base for 325; 32,100 for 330..TAX free)

Wait till you get back buddy, you'll have a fat bank account when you get back and a FAT tax return. After 15 months of tax free I still got a monster tax return (thanx to EIC), I'm talking like 8 grand.

PM me if you have need any ideas on what to pack or anything at all bro'
