Would you buy a 1 series?
In the current hatchback configuration as it is sold in the Euro market?
Would be very interesting to get some feedback on this... |

I was considering one but I have heard they aren't as luxurious as they seem in pictures. I can't really decide without ever seeing one in person.

Only I'd like a small lightweight coupe, with 6-spd manual and a high-revving 2.5L inline-4 that does 250hp and 35mpg. Yea I was thinking about the E30 M3 when I said the above. |

They have them here they look hideous, but not as bad as the previous 3 series compact. They generally have smaller 4 cyl engines and are not well specced.
I wouldn't get one because they are too small, and the E90 is the perfect sized car for me. I would have a 130 as a toy, but as others have said they aren't as well made as the 3, nor can you get options like active cruise which is now a mandatory feature for me now I have had it.

In the US, I heard dealerships are open to the 1 series but only with a 6 cyl and in coupe (ie. 2 series). I'd be open to that. BMW drive for less $$. The old guard enthusiasts(sp?) in the US would be all over the 1/2 series.

NOPE!
Drove one for a week - went ok, handled well, but looked hideous (inside and out) and the driving position (RHD) was atrocious.....centre of the steering wheel lined up with the clutch FFS!!!!!!

I am sorry if I offended compact owners I was a bit harsh, and I should think sometimes before posting.
I just think that with the E36 based model, BMW did half the job they could have done by truncating the sedan to get to market quickly. The E46 based model was much better looking, though I wasn't crazy about the high-jewel rear lights, the shape was more resolved and it looked like it was designed with more purpose.
