Pretty neat, but I don't care for all the technology. A lot of the information I need to know about my car is known every time I enter and exit. The idea is cool, but all these little gadgets are taking over. Give me a turn key and a tumbler, lol.

Obsolete before it is released to production?
Thanks for posting the article about key fobs, but imho the key fob has already been replaced with something better. Other manufacturers already have apps for smart phones that do all of this. Eventually, BMW will catch up with that technology. Given that Bluetooth is available on the phones and in current BMW cars it's only a matter of time before somebody realizes that the phone can do all of it and that the fob is redundant.

Neat looking key, but as others have said smartphone integration is definitely the way to go. BTW, I can only imagine what a replacement i8 key will sell for....

Technology for the sake of technology. Whatever information that key will display would only be available if in close proximity to the car or availability of wifi. If that's the case why not make a phone app to display same / more?

I'd just prefer the old chunk of metal that fits into the ignition personally. Call me old school but i don't need keyless start. It's just another way for me to lose/forget the keys. Plus the price of a keyfob is absolutely ridiculous as it is. $250 for a non comfort access key is stupid

It depends though... Even though I have a smart phone, I'd hate to be screwed if it ran out of batteries, not to mention it's one hell of a conversation starter... Also, I do know this older business guy with a Lexus LS and tons of cash, but swears by his flip phone.
But conversely on a side note, wonder if someone can figure out a way to jury-rig it to work with our e9X's or even in current-gen non-i8 cars
