quick question about trailers.
im looking to buy a single axle 4x8 trailer that is being sold locally for a great deal that i cant really pass up unless i cant make it bigger. i would be using it to haul my two ATV's around so i can get to other mountains, etc.
i know they will fit side by side (kind of hard to load that way- see pics), but if i drove them straight on they would not fit. both atv's together is a little under 12 feet long. so, my question is... is it possible to safely extend the trailer by adding 2 feet to the front and rear and extending the tongue? |

i think the trailer itself as it is can support the weight of both. they arent the heaviest units.. i have a 250 and a 350, so they arent monsters.

i dont disagree.. i will double check the rating on the tires. im most worried about the extra load on the axle from the planned extension.

whats the load capacity of the trailer as is right now?
And do i see leaf springs on the trailer? Leaf springs and what ever they are attached to would be my main concern, then tires, then the axle.

the owner says he had 600-700 pounds on it regularly, so I don't know for sure what to expect but I can't be too optimistic I guess

The trailer should handle it,I would cut the rails of one side so I could side load it
Or you could remove the rails and put a wood floor over the existing one and get your extra room that way and use eyelets as your tiedown holders |

You could always stand them up vertically or "doggystyle". I did that for a year with my 5x8 before i got something bigger. Shouldnt be a problem unless you have a Polaris Predator as they are known to drain oil into the air filter box when vertical.

Its actually quite easy. Just make sure you strap them down good. Oh, and turn the fuel off and let it run untill it stalls, pull the vent hose going to the airbox and plug it with something (bolt or a vaccum cap), just remember to hook the hose back up when you get to where youre going.
