Subaru BRZ STI concept copied Z4 M-coupe design
Due to lack of creativity Subaru has twisted the design of the Z4 M-coupe a little, put on a giantic rear spoiler and put the Subaru badge on it.
Lucklily they are not able to copy the technical lay out.

Yeah, I don't see much resemblance. Plus BMW stole the Z4 Coupe design from the 240Z, so it would have just been the Japanese reclaiming their design anyway.

Take the rear fender, it bulges from the B pillar then slopes back down. The tail lights are nearly identical (shape is not whats important really, but how it ties into the other aesthetics) The side aero is identical, even how it ties into the rear quarter. The ONE place they actually varied a lot is where the window meets the B pillar, and well, there's no way in hell they were going to copy the Hofmeister kink of BMWs. It's also probably the main reason you guys are taking a quick look and saying "nope not the same" It's a subtle but very strong cue. If you blacked it out on both cars you would think they were far more similar. If they make this car, I will buy it.

If you want to get down to pointing fingers at who copied who then It was definitely BMW who copied first. BMW outright said they copied the design of the Shelby Daytona coupes from the 60's which is actually just a British two seater with a hard top welded on it. Subaru is getting back to its roots with a pure two door STI. Good for them. Copy of a bimmer? No. |
