Bummed
I went to the bank this morning and after, I looked at my balance...
Someone got hold of my ATM card number and made a $755.55 purchase at Amazon this last Wednesday!   I notified the bank already and hope to have my money back in a couple of days, but I really feel insecure about the whole thing now. I will get a new ATM card but since I don't know how this happened, I don't feel good about this not happening again. I have a paypal account and in the past (and recently) I have gotten emails telling me my account has been violated, but those emails always ask for me to verify info and I don't do that. Maybe this could be related? Thanks for reading! Danny

sorry to hear about that danny! banks are usually pretty good about these types of things and should get your money back fairly fast.
i'm not sure how you use your atm card, but sometimes they can be swiped onto a device or palm pilot if say used at a restaurant and some shady person works there. majority of paypal emails are spoofs. i would not click on any of those links. if you want to check your account, just go to paypal.com and login from there.

This happened to me too a few years ago, although only for $14. Someone got into the bank of america databases and charged thousands of people's accounts with amazon orders so it may not be that you did anything wrong or had anything stolen, it could just be poor bank security.

Did you remember the last time you hand over your ATM card? I had this happen to me when I dine out using my AMEX.
In the end, I called AMEX and they remove my charges. I also help them identify the potential culprit as I am aware of my "purchasing behavior".

Close the bank account and ask the bank to open a new account for you.
New cards, new account #, new pin, etc. Good luck.

Danny, I've read news report about thiefs that would attach a reader device to the ATM machines where you insert/swipe your ATM card, and it collects the info contained within your card and then they make a dup of your card.
Hopefully your bank will refund your money no probs!
