This is the one of most difficult airports to land in. If you dont get the approach right you have two choices, try again or...die.
Hes not an asshole for not landing, he was trying to slow down.

The approach into Tegucigalpa is notoriously difficult, a number of American carriers only let Captains fly the approach. There is an infamous video of an AA 752 barely clearing that hill on base.
That approach was not good, it was not stable. Good approaches usually lead to good landings. |

This approach has been simplified since then. But that said, this guy just blew it, nearly killed many humans

The approach as published is challenging. He carried a little bit of extra speed through that turn and should have pulled the throttles upon wings level and added power as necessary to maintain the approach speed, but held the throttles on too long. That said, it's easy to sit back and second-guess someone. This and Lukla are two approaches I'd love to fly.
