I'm not going that big, but I need a Camera because my sister lost one. Planning on getting a DSLR, not too expensive but something that gets the job done. Anyone?

I know you are looking at a DSLR but I would recommend a Sony HX100V.

It is an awesome bridge camera. 30X zoom (so no need to carry multiple lenses) with full manual modes and some great intelligent scene modes that give you awesome results.

I own a DSLR, some professional compacts and this Sony as well. And more often than not, I reach for the Sony.

I'm a Nikon fan...so something not expensive, D7000. If you need to go cheaper, look at the D5100.

Money for SLR camera's should really be spent on the lens. Few of the lens's I have cost more than the camera body.

It's a very nice camera and Frys is running a special right now for $599 picked up. I'd be buying that one if I didn't have to replace my hood after someone keyed it :/

I have the t3i with that lens and a 50mm f1.4
So far I absolutely love it no regrets

I have a T3i as well. It's a great camera for the price. Pick up a 50mm f1.8 for another $100 and you should be busy for a while.
