Need honest opinions on my E90 situation

So i drive an 06 325 w/sport pkg. I absolutely love the car... got it last october for shy under 30 and its been a blast. My situation is this.... today i rolled over 21k miles. That means by the time this oct rolls around i'll be at close to 23k!!!!!! That's a ton of miles to put on my car in one year... and i basically stay in the df/w metroplex. Being that, i do have the car traditionally financed and not leased, so miles are not 100% important... but as you all know premium gas is a ton and I basically drive to work and back. Also soon i'll have to change the tires..... and my warrenty will be up ( which is not something you want to deal with when you commute a lot every week!!!). Then on top of it, because i drive so much a lease isn't such a good idea considering your miles are tally'ed up before hand.

that said, right now my father wants to buy my car outright for whatever the blue book value is. I'm thinking i can recoup almost what i paid for it ( give or take) and go buy something more practical for daily driving. My current job situation lends itself to me transferring to a closer office within another couple of years... so i'm thinking at that time i'll jump back in a bimmer but this time in a 335 or m3

So my questions are the following:

1) if you had to get rid of your bmw for another car, what would be a good practical daily driver? I'm thinking something obviously jap.. like toyota or nissan.

2) I'm trying to be pragmatic in this, but its so hard to let my car go. Would you if you were in my situation? I can always get back in a bmw, but right now it just doesnt seem sensible?

i had my car for exactly a year and just broke 25K miles.

1) i would get something like nissan altima coupe or toyota camry.

2) i would definitely keep my bmw.

Think of it this way you have an '06 by the end of the year you will roughly have 25k miles.

That took roughly 2 years give or take some months. So for another 25k miles it will take roughly 2 years. Here is what I would do.

Save cash up, within a year maybe little less or more. You can then go get a new BMW. Since your father is buying out your vehicle you can then trade it in or sell privately however you feel you can get the most.

Just put money away every month and trust me cash can build up. Any car can be economical you just have to make it economical. Well "any car" for the most part.

actually if its an 06 and it had literally 10 miles on it, and its only 10 months old right now and has 21k..... it took me less than a year, no?

also for a DD, i'm thinking maybe a toyota FJ cruiser? might not be the best MPG, but it does go off road which helps considering i love to go camping

I'd go with a Honda. Toyota's are boring and more expensive than comparable hondas.
BTW, had my e90 for 27 months (today) and just broke 15k miles

Bleh. This is nothing. My dad just bought his Lexus RX350 in September 2006. He just rolled over the 60,xxx kilometer mark this month = ~37,500 miles. Cars are meant to be driven.

I say keep driving it. Unless you are willing to give up a nice car...all in the name of saving some money...and that's only if you move into a really fuel efficient car like a Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris...but those won't be nearly as fun to drive.

What price range do you want to be in???? Under 30K ??? I would say look at a Mini Cooper ... for 2006 they got KBB best resale value award ... they are great on gas, you can get a nicely loaded cooper s for about 27K and the warranty is the same as the BMWs (includes service) and come from BMW financial you might get some re ocurring buyer deal.

If the Mini is too small for you then I would say look for a low mile G35 ... the car wil last forever and gets good gas milage, looks good, and isnt much of step down from your 3.

keep it

I have 43K on mine and it's fine

tires for 325's aren't expensive, and it gets good MPG

don't let your dad rip you off, he'll save money buying used, while you take a bath on another new car

I think you are asking us on this forum to justify the purchase of your M3...

I dont see why you have to sell your car...cars always depreciate. If its for mpg purposes than get a Prius.

I would only sell it if there was some other car you really wanted. I would not sell it just to save money on mpg and then suffer driving a car that I had to settle on.

Forget the Prius if you want mpg. You'll never make up the initial outlay of cash for the hybrid system. If it's mpg you want, get a Corolla. 42mpg hwy and a lot less money. Also, a manual Corolla is going to be a lot more fun to drive than a Prius (relatively speaking).

How old are you? What is important to you in a car? There are lots of cars... It really just depends on what matters to you. Do you need a sedan? Do you have children? Are you more concerned with power? If you're not sure what you want, consider looking on swapalease.com. Take over a lease for a little while, have no money out of pocket, and don't worry about the depreciation because you don't have to sell it - if you think you might want to keep it, consider the lease end buyout when you're searching. That's how I found my car - I won't tell you the deal I got b/c I don't want the other m roadster owners to get angry. I don't think we'll ever buy from a dealer again. I saw an 07 E350 with the sport package on there the other night for a little over $500/mo. IMO - I would rather have that than a 3 series.

I'm at 22-mths with almost 35K on it, so there's a lot of us in your shoes too.

I saw a new Altima Coupe at work and it looks like a G35 but the rear just appears to be higher and wider, nice looking car though.

The OP paid around 30 for his 325, but I bet you a loaded Altima Coupe is going to run around $25-26K too, if not more.
