Umm... I'm trying to look at it from different angles to see if I like it. The fact that I am doing this means that I do not like it. It looks like a Hyundai.
The M variant usually ups the exterior ante quite a bit. We'll have to wait and see. |

I'm not sure if BMW will put the "M" badges on the fenders of N/A models, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. In any case, as much as I love what the ///M logo looks like and stands for, etc., BMW is going too far in badging the exterior as such if you put it in the perspective of a "real" M owner. Fact is, if BMW THEMSELVES badge a car with an "M" badge, then officially all of us with M-Sports have "Real M Cars". Why play it down if BMW's whoring it out? If someone walks up to your car and says "Is that an M?" then what are you gonna say when you have 14 M badges scattered all over your car and two of them being right there on the fenders? Well, thanks to BMW, it's a "Yes". I'd be pissed if I had a "true" M car.
I also am really bummed out that it looks like an F30 so much. Too much "Sedan version of a Coupe" instead of a true sexy Coupe profile. The rear and character being so close to the Sedan gives it too close a utilitarian/"common" look like the Sedan being all "thin" and squared off, which shouldn't belong here (works great on the character and message of the Sedan, but not a "4" Coupe). If BMW wants to badge it as an all new model, then it shouldn't look more similar to the 3-Series than any other 3-Coupe has to its Sedan brother in recent history. To go further on the exterior, to copy what I said in another thread: One thing I don't like about the F32 is the whole rear window portion. It's too long, therefore giving it away as "not a true Coupe" and more "2 door version of what's inherently a 4-door car". In that regard it starts to remind me of the most hideous and low-rent/cheap looking car to come out of Stuttgart to U.S roads: The new C-Coupe, with its gargantuously ungainly rear quarter windows (of course it's further ruined by the hideous singular fat door frame as well, reminds me of a Pontiac Sunfire meeting an Accord Coupe), and overall unsexy character. Also I'm not crazy about the angular little Hofmeister Kink, as smoothly transitioned large rounded Kinks are all BMW. I was really in love with the car during the developmental phase but am a little let down so far, although I do think it's still overall very nice and an improvement from the E92 which although being a great design that still looks extremely modern and relevant to design trends coming out today, for some reason never really attracted me. It certainly doesn't carry the rich sexiness of the 6 Coupe, which is to be expected and understandable, but at least the 6 deviates itself from the 5 a lot more than this does the 3.

I don't know why couch journalists bother to log in, only to be negative about a brand you supposedly love ( or why are you here?) If you're a car fanatic you should know better than to post negative sentiments based on nothing but a few pictures on your screen. You need to see it in person, then you will realize it looks nothing like a Hyundai and looks quite different to the F30, perhaps no more different than he E92 is from the E90, but different nonetheless.
Part of the reason you frequent hear statements such as "looks like a Hyundai" is because those brands hardly existed 10 yrs and they have been emulating the mainstreams ever since in effort to gain market share, so yes, you will see similarities in styling with lower priced competitors.

its sacrilegious to stick all these ///M on a non-TRUE M car. what the heck is bmw doing. its tarnishing the more upscale model.
this is will only encourage people to stick a ///M badge next to the 328i badge. so many morons do that already. its either or, not both! |

those are Euro cars, not US cars (aside from the German license plates they don't have the ugly orange front reflectors that the USA BMWs get). we will not get M badges, just like the F30 in the USA doesn't have Sport/Luxury/Modern badging like Euro BMWs. come on guys, do some research.

Random thread Jack but I just saw a Dakar E92 M3 at my dealer with yellow contrast stitching last week and I fell in love as I did with your car... ( just a shout out to a man of good taste)

I personally like it, M-Sport will have to be an option because the Sport looks too plain compared to the concept. Anyone have an idea on when the Gran Coupe is coming out?

Wow, I'm surprised at the negative reactions! Of course, this seems to happen every time a newly redesigned model comes out…guess people hate change (until it grows on you).
I do agree that it is much blander than the concept model was (which I absolutely loved). I am a little disappointed in that aspect, but I'm not surprised either. In order for the M4 to stand out, they always water down the mainstream models of the series. It is a little odd that it looks so much like a 3 series coupe instead of it's own line (such as the 6 is completely different than the 5), but it's stilll a damn good looking car and much better than the uber bland e92 (which I never bought for a reason)! I assume it looks so much like the 3 series is to keep costs down by sharing as many parts as they can (which is fine by me). I think a great aspect of this new coupe is that it has a much more powerful stance. It's a tad wider and lower to the ground (can't wait to see it in person). And best of all…it's going to be lighter but with more goodies which should come together as a very fun to drive car (at a higher price point tho). And I DEFINITELY can't wait to see the new M4's powerful stance…too bad it'll be outside of my price range. |

All this whining about M badges is ridiculous! It is an "M Sport" not a "M4". What is the point of an "M Sport" if you are not allowed to brand it? The reason for M badges is to show what model it is and that it is inspired by the M division with sporty features.
Now don't get me wrong, putting a "M3" badge on a regular 3 series or a "M5" badge on a regular 5 series is stupid but I don't see the issue with a standalone "M". What I would find interesting is how many of these haters still have an M badge on their M sport steering wheel, or M sport badges on the rims of their non M cars? Or even upgrade their non M sport bumpers to M sport? Isn't this making your car something it's not? |

I like the F32 but one thing that bothers me a bit and i have mentioned this before on a spy pic i saw and thats is that the rear wheel looks to be more to the front of the wheel housing in some of the pictures (not centered)
Maybe its just the photos or the angles or something? What do you guys think? Im glad that BMW still offers a manual transmission and a handbrake. I think the M4 will be really nice ,looking forward to it very much. |
