Valet Claims: "Your Car Was Hit By Drunk Driver"...

So I went to see a band play at a small local music club (Los Angeles area). We took my girlfriends 2009 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T (turbo). It could have easily been my E92 2009 335i 6MT. We had parked at this place many times before. There were two valet guys that would park the cars in the parking lot of the liquor store adjacent to the club. Up to now no problems...

When we got out of the show, we found that her Jetta had the passenger side door severely dented and scraped up from an impact. It also damaged the rocker panel and fender. The a**hole also hit her tire and f-ed up her front suspension. It's hard to drive the car in a straight line. I'm thinking bent strut.

The valet claimed that a possibly drunk driver came into the lot, side swiped her car, then sped off. Of course no one was able to catch up wit the guy and get a plate number. One employee of the music club claims he saw the incident but was not able to get a clear view of the car.

Get this: They claim it was a red BMW 3 series... But there's white paint on my GF's car (the Jetta is black).

I didn't think of it at the time, but why didn't these idiots call 911, report a drunk driver that hit a parked car and sped off, driving on the wrong side of the road and running a red light? With a description of the car on Cahuenga blvd on a Saturday night the guy would have been pulled over. Even if he wasn't drunk he'd have some explaining to do about the very fresh damage on his car.

But of course these valets are foreign guys that are scare sh*tless of calling the police, even when it's the right thing to do and they are in no way suspect.

I demanded that the owner of the valet company come and see the damage. He gave me his card. But it's outside at night and his card is black. When I get home I see that his card gives the name of the valet service, two first names, two phone numbers, and a gmail e-mail address. A search of CA business turned up nothing.

I'd say these guys don't want to be found if something goes wrong.

My GF has full coverage, but she's going to have to pay her deductible, and be without a car for who knows how long. She's already called in the claim.

I did call the police (North Hollywood has jurisdiction). They won't send anyone out for something like this (too much "real" crime going on, I guess).

The liquor store may have video from their security camera. I spoke to the owner today. But their camera does not cover the area where (according to the valets) the incident took place. But it -would- show that my GF's car showed up without a huge dent on the passenger side at 9 pm. By 11 pm it was all f-ed up.

Anybody got any ideas on how to make these guys take responsibility? I will greatly appreciate any input from anyone that's been in a similar circumstance.

Thanks in advance!

The valet service should have liability insurance. If they parked your car they are responsible for its damage under thier care. If they are a fly by night company its going to be hard to squeeze them for money or bring suit. Any estimate of the damages? Did the club hire them?

Whatever insurance the club has covers them if they directly cause an accident or damage. They probably have basic disclaimers that say that other incidents such as theft is not their responsibility. In any case you need to handle it through your girlfriend's insurance company. They can decide whether to deal with the club's insurance or not. If you try to do this without dealing with the car's insurance company, you're probably wasting time and risking not getting anything from anyone.

This is why I always grab the keys after it's been parked and if that isn't possible then I tip the kid $20 to let me park it myself. F*ck the valet system. Lol
