I had a special friend tell me the 320i ActiveFlex will also be made in the new factory in addition to it being made in Brazil. Does anyone know if this is true? I only thought South America wanted that ethanol option?

He also told me exactly what you said about the X1, Mini Countryman, and a 5 Door 1 Series being made there......

This is disappointing me.
Oh dear. Automobile manufacturing is so global and automated these days, it's really your bad luck, although America has their fair share of extravagant quality issues. Have you been watching the news the past few months? Look at GM!

Our plants in MX are much higher rated in terms of quality and cost. And this is no different for all OEM with plants in MX.
A lot of the quality may have to do with training. Yes it can be management's decisions, but training can have something to do with quality. I've found that one worker may have too many tasks to do and that it could be split up. And the tasks might be rather complex and can lead to errors. Also shorter shifts, worker rotation, etc. can help with maintaining quality.

I'm sure BMW knows more than I on this and has many consultants researching previous failures (probably has many nice internal presentations on it). I bet they even hire employees who used to work at other automakers in these regions.

Don't worry about quality until you actually see the final product. If you don't like, I suggest you call Norbert Reithofer on the phone. His number is +49-89-382-4

Did you choose it? or you are saying it as an after thought because you cant do anything about it now?

This does make the most sense. The X1 is being made at the over capacity Leipzig plant and the Countryman is outsourced to Magna Steyr in Austria. It would make sense to consolidate them to one factory in Mexico under their new shared platform.

It makes sense for the 3 series to made in Mexico for the US market but I have my doubts since they're doing the modular platform with whole plants being dedicated to one platform.

Yeah what I'm saying is that it's my most reliable. I also wouldn't mind having my next one made in SA.

You mean Mexico?

I do t have anything against SA plant or Mexico or whatever, all I'm saying that I prefer a 70k car to be built by people who designed it. If you were to buy a 300k lambo, would u consider any other country's build except Italy?

Next topic is outsourcing

No I mean what I mean. I'm sure you buy electronics created and designed in America and manufactured in China all the time. Heck! I even have GE Appliances I spend thousands on that aren't even made in America. Some are, some aren't.

Actually, I don't care if a 300k lambo is made in Italy as long as it meets specifications and functions correctly. I'm probably in a different generation than you are.

This emoticon sums up the reason I have until recently created an account on Bimmerpost. I see a lot of this back and forth:
