The only real issue will be what you need for back-seat and trunk space...as the lighter, but less-roomy, M2 will be a hair's-breathe from the M3/M4, and likely have more impressive turn-in...as was the case between the 1M and the e9x M3/M4. I should know, having had a 1M, but finding that I needed the bigger car in the end. I've driven both on the track.
