Next Enzo to be powered by V8 TT

Looks like Ferrari is considering going back to turbo power for next Enzo. If Ferrari feels it's most focused driver's car can go down this route sure BMW must see that there dogged approach of not having forced induction in their M range is limiting them against the competition.

Although a radical departure from commonplace supercar powertrains, Ferrari technical director Robert Fedeli explained today to AutoWeek that optimum power-to-weight ratio is preferred over essentially redundant 'power wars'. However, both V12 and V8 options are being developed side by side until a firm decision is made. Neither engine has been allocated an internal code number.

The development of a new V8 unit is in the mindset of Ferrari more than it is an engineering neccessity. "It is not just a question of power," says Fedeli. "We have to choose whether we maintain the shape of the weight-to-power curve of the Enzo with more power or with less weight," Fedeli said.

"If we do a [2200-pound] car with the same weight-to-power ratio as the FXX, then you want to save the maximum weight. The best packaging for that kind of car is an eight-cylinder turbo. That would have to be an all-new V8."

A solution can be chosen within the coming few years prior to the start of development on the next Enzo, with the FXX model allowing the team to test a number of innovations which may feature on the new-generation supercar.
Does anyone else feel like me that it's time for M-power to bite the bullet and look at turbos for future M models.

I'm sure we'll see it within the next couple of generations Ms.

Both Ferarri and M have traditionally relied on hi revving normal aspirated engines - a la Formula 1. The NEw engine 335i/535i was the introduciotn of the turbo to get additional power with not much weight and fuel consumption.

I'm sure that BMW is watching what the competition - Merc and Audi are doing with a close eye.

It won't be an Enzo, it's their next supercar.

They're doing this primarily to meet euro emission standards, as well as lower weight.

The talk now is to have a slightly less power than the Enzo, while weighing quite a bit less. Or about the same power with less weight. Rumor is the target goal is around 2200lbs. Not gonna happen, but most are predicting no more than 2700 or 2800.
