I'm with lux on this one. I have found myself having difficulty discerning whether the headlight and grille I see at a distance, either coming from the opposite direction or in my rearview, is an E60 or an E90.
I've never had someone argue with me that my car was an E60 though I don't care either way. I love it and it looks awesome.

LoL, i always get the 2 confused driving around. Alot of times my friends are in the car, and ill be bragging about how i can spot a new 3 series miles away, and so ill say "hey heres a white one coming up behind me in the left lane, ill bet you $10 its a 3".. then it shows up, and its a 5.. and im poor

the e90 looks more like the e60 from the front. rear view unmistakable as e90 with stock L shaped red lights. i guess only a non bmw fan/driver would get confused with the look of both cars at close range. guess most e90 fans can tell a e60 from a e90 from 50 metres at least.

Seriously, when the E90 first came out, I can already tell it's not a 5 series. When there were only 2 or 3 on the roads, first I would be like "hmm that looks like a 5 series, but wait, it's a lil too small and the design is diff. It's def a 3series". I can spot an E90 a mile away. Actually, I can spot any BMW a mile away. Just goes to show how much of a fan I am. |

the e90 and the e60 have a lot of similarities which at first glance can be mistaken.

i personally think they are completely different looking cars, i have no idea where the confusion comes from.
anyways, most of the time, i'm glad if people at least recognize it's a BMW because 99% of the time my friends only say "did you get a new car? what happened to the green one?" and believe it or not, i had some people ask me "is this the new chevy? wow, they look even better in person!"

I live out a little bit, so it's rare that you see a BMW. People who do compliment when I travel always know it's a 3 series. Excecpt for my family who has no clue. They all drive Lincolns and Buicks- In their eyes, the bigger the better. They hate my car and any car that doesn't put you to sleep the instant you sit behind the wheel. They mix the numbers up all the time. "Uh- isin't it a 532 or a 235?" Stick to your old Buick Roadmaster's and Town Cars siblings...

i've also been asked if my car is a 5 a couple times. i take no offense to it as i like both cars, and like most bmw's in general.

I can see someone who's not an enthusiast mixing them up a bit but I really think they're quite different, especially the front. Between the headlight shape and kidney grill they look completely different.
