BMWs Isetta to be born-again ?
Autoexpress is reporting today that BMW may bring back the Isetta. Many of you may remember this as Urkel's car. In fact, for its time the idea behind this car was to be a small urban mobility vehicle similar to the Mini, or more likely the Smart car range. With increased awareness and drive towards smaller more fuel efficient vehicles for city use, the idea of BMW bringing back the Isetta is not that far off. Of course many of the original car's design qwirks would have to be lost to meet modern day regulations. And the question remains, would this car really meet up to BMWs current standard as the Ultimate Driving Machine ?

I think its a great idea. Why not bring out something that could compete with the Smart car. At least this has heritage.

it will never happen............... but just some food for thought.
The Isetta had 3 wheels and front opening door this concept retains NON of the original traits that made the Isetta so unique, and now so collectible. what is the point of calling it an Isetta if they are going to change all the details? wonder if they would keep the 15hp motorcycle engine too!

I think it would be a good idea. The original was very successful. Unfortunately, it would never come here. It doesn't represent what Americans think BMW is. The smart car already has 30,000 preorders and its not even here yet. My local dealer restored one and its in their showroom. |
