I appreciate your concern, but it's a written contract with a job description found in writing in several sources. I'm sure it's not bull.
Google Marine MOS 2100, etc for better descriptions. |

Thanks again, guys.
Off to LAMEPS tomorrow for physical and final processing, including contract and swear in. If everything goes right, tomorrow night I'll be a Poolee, waiting for shipment to basic. If everything DOESN'T go right, I'll be a BMW tech a while longer. But everything will go great. OORah |

Best of luck, Matt. Big life decision indeed. I remember that day when I signed up too, but after 10 yrs, I'm glad that I joined and the Navy had been great for me...Got my MSEE essentially for free! Imagine that.
Good luck and make us E90posters proud!

I'm going to start basic as a recruit, like everyone else. If thinks go as I hope, I will start at an E2 pay grade, and be a PFC at the end of boot. I also hope to excel at boot, and get in the honor guide, and get out of boot as an E-3, Lance Corporal. |

Good Luck.
After almost 10 year in the military I can say that it was a good choice for me. I have worked with every service and they all have their good and bad. Be prepared to be "dumbed down" a bit in the begining, especially before you get to your first perminant duty station. The Marines are a cult-like society that values more brawn over brains so I hope you can turn on the "meat-head" for a bit. I'm sitting here with a current Marine. His advise is to watch "Jarhead." That will be your life but probably less glamorus (if possible) b/c you will not be an infantryman. You will have a great sense of commradery but your deployments will suck ass. It sounds like you did your homework but I have to say that if computers/ electronics/ mechanics are your interests that I would have gone........ Air Force Navy Army Marines I just hope you didn't get sucked in but the fancy Marine uniform. That is the best thing they have going. Remember, 80% of what the recruiter and guys at MEPPS told you is bullshit......I've always said that recruiters are just used-cars salesmen in uniforms. |

I was pretty lucky with my recruiters when I joined in '02. I dealt with 2 of em, and both were combat arms MOS's, and were no bullshit guys. VERY rare these days. They told me how it was going to be, and I have to say they were telling the truth. I heard some stories from guys in basic "man, my recruiter said we'd have alot of time off and there was even a pool here" Some people are so gullible its unreal. Thank God I served in the airborne, SOME of those "legs" and "pogs" were dumb as rocks.
Good luck in your endeavors Matt, I wish you the best.

Love the silent drill team. Definitely the highlight of my bootcamp. No, I was not a Marine, but was trained by a Gunny, and boy that was one hardcore Gunny. He actually wanted to turn us into these oustanding Marines in the SDT in 13 weeks. There was no way that's gonna happen. We did OK though. Anyway, good luck Matt and enjoy your holidays now before shipping out.
