timing belt - question

If a car (mazda) only has 50,000 miles (7 year old)...does it need to change timing belt?
Anyone has experience with old cars with little miles...is timing belt necessary

Timing belts replacements are also dependent upon age. If you have a camshaft/crankshaft seal that's leaking at all, that can prematurely age the belt. If the engine is a non-interference type, there is no need to be concerned at all (don't know if this particular is or isn't).

They are usually changed out at 90k, along with the water pump and all the drive belts.

Belts do deteriorate over time and i would think that 5 years old or more (irrespective of mileage) would warrant changing the belt. After all its a lot of damage if it breaks and they do break.

All of my past Mazda's recommended replacement at 60K miles. I'd do it now if I was you though since it is 7 years old.

Regardless of how little miles the car has done, since it is 7 years old I'd have the belts done quickly - no question. For the reletivly low cost of replacement you will kick youself if it failed as the damage it will cause will cost you a lot more.
