Thumbs down Office Weight Loss Contests

The workout thread reminded me of this lunacy.

Does anyone else work with these retards that have a "weight loss contest" for like a month or so in the office?

I can't stand it. They do this and then go back to their regular ways. Maybe this makes me an a-hole, but I always tell them they're stupid for having these contests. I always say they need to have a real contest and do it for 6+ months. They just say, that would be too difficult for people to do. Excuse me what....

This girl behind me who told me last year about 3 times she was quiting smoking and I called her bluff everytime. Now she's saying she really is and she's gonna eat right and excercise. Then she talks about doing some workout video one night, ONE NIGHT, and says she woke up the next morning and saw a flatter stomach.

If they were serious I wouldn't laugh at them, but these 1 month contest and continual lies irritate me. Then when I pull out my grilled chicken and brocolli for lunch, they all salovate over it and say they wish they had my will power. It's not will power, it's called cooking everything for the week on sunday.

Well, you should know that several years ago houston was leading the fatest city survey (probably is still in the lead in that catagory). Mayor White then started this campaing to get everyone to watch what they eat and do some walking at work. Yes, Houston we have a problem!

You should be nice to your workers and try to help them instead of laughing at them. Teach them your will power thingy...

I started out nice, and let them do they're thing. But they treat it like it's a life changing month. That's why I initially brought up the idea of a 6 month contest. That would be truly life changing. It's the attitude of "people can't do it for 6 months" that made me became the mean guy and tell them their contest is pointless.

I know people are lazy, they use elevator/escalator when they can walk. We are borned with good limbs so we should use it. I tried to give my coworker hard time when they don't use the stair. You have to remember that some people are over weight due to diabetics so eating sweet fruits might not be all that good for them. But it is very important to have a lean diet. Stop munching on potatoes chip during work hours. Try to eat more fruits if you are not diabetics. Also, for those who say they only have a salad for lunch, well look what they are using for dressing (the dressing is the killer right there - too much of it) and they usually top it off with a soda when they can have water. You can point those out to them.

Since we are on this topic, I heard that drinking hot tea after a meal is a great way to disolved any cholestoral from a recent meal (FWIW)!

I totally agree with the OP. I am not at a point where it angers me but I find it comical when people do something for a short period of time, get all excited about the results and then stop... like they think the results are just going to stay? Please.

OMG!

They began talking about it again. I didn't say anything, and the girl was saying how she would like to lose 25lbs. I politely asked again, why not make the contest for at least 3 months? And also responded, nicely saying dieting and excercise is a lifestyle change. You will not be changing anything in a month.

Her reply, "Because people will lose focus".

Mechanism is not understood yet. There are some observational results that show some beneficial effects, but nothing that can say for sure that it definitely lowers it in everyone, and how it does it. Plus, most results are not immediate results, and the doses may be higher that what one may drink on a regular basis.

Do you know what bothers me the most? It's the type of people that ask you for help and want you to create some type of a workout plan for them. Definitely not a problem since I enjoy helping others out but it pisses me off when they don't stick to it and begin being lazy. These people don't see results in 3 weeks so they quit altogether only to come back again next month and be excited about the gym yet again. The vicious cycle just continues. Nobody said that lifting weights is easy but once you get into the cycle you won't want to quit.

Eat clean, lift big, sleep often, drink water and you'll look sexy in no time.
