GT350 w/DCT 2018?
Rumors are all over the net that in 2018 Ford will offer a DCT trans, That will be a hell of a car if that's true, Some say 2019.
IMO every car companies performance lines should offer a DCT, when the new mid engine Vette comes out it will have a Chevy DCT, they filed for a 7 speed DCT patent a couple years ago. Maybe others have posted this, but Honestly i love BMW, but a GT350 w/DCT would be Awesome, My Pops worked at Fords, so.

Dual Clutch Transmissions are clearly at the forefront from a performance standpoint at present time. They are better than traditional 3 pedal manuals and traditional planetary gear automatics in terms of shift speed and outright performance.
However, planetary automatics are progressing very fast and it is quite possible that they will make DCT obsolete in the very near future.

If the GT350 and Corvette do get a DCT, I suspect it will be the upcoming 7 speed Tremec. I don't think they will design an in-house DCT after already investing in the 10 speed auto.

yes, its so wrong to make a car faster...
Faster shifts and the possibility of a 1st gear that isn't quite so tall would clean up the 0-60, and track performance would be night and day better. |

According to the rumors I have heard, the GT350 will be dropped from the lineup in the 2018 refresh with it being replaced with other variants including the GT500.

There's no way they developed a flat plane V8 only to build it for two years. I suppose the GT500 could have a forced induction version of it, but why not just offer both?

Ford and Chevy are stepping up their game with their pony cars. Mustangs have never been great at handling and braking. That has changed in 2012 when you saw Track pack GT's in 2012 and the different variations on the Boss302. And they continue to get better and better. Competition can be a good thing. |

The new Mid Engine Vette will have a 7speed DCT, if not it will not ever be good enough, IMO

Many of the Voodoo parts can be used on the Coyote engine. Ford Racing Performance Parts has parts to use the higher flowing GT350 heads on a cross plane crank engine. Including cams with the same lift and duration but with the correct valve event timing so that it all works correctly. So even if they don't use the cross plane crank in most applications, future motors can benefit from other technologies besides the cross plane crank. The 2017 Camaro has the 10 speed that Chevy and Ford developed together. GM says the trans up shifts faster than one of the Porsche cars with a PDC (DTC). so that is pretty impressive. But I don't think they will be able to get the trans to up, down, down, up, up, down, up, down, down, down, etc as a DCT will be able to do it. But the 10 speed trans seems to have made great strides if it can at least upshift as fast as a well know DTC. |

Current rumors are the GT350 stays around for a while.
For the motor, Ford racing is going to use the 5.2L block to build cross plane crank crate motors. More over, given past experience I'd expect the 2018 mustang GT to use a version of the 5.2L block even if uses conventional liners instead of the plasma arc coating. They got some better cooling of the cylinder walls, wieght reduction, and other small improvements into the 5.2L block while they were already doing new castings anyway. From the performance packs a 5.0 based on the 5.2L would do 460ish hp on a lighter overall weight. They rolled some of the easy stuff from the boss 302 into the 2015 coyote which is why I think its almost certain for the face lift. The DCT would be nice, but cost is a factor. Of course now that they proved they can sell 6000 GT350 a year with ease with 99% of them to the US... Maybe the 2018 will have a EU legal hood and they can push those numbers up to pay for more fancy toys. I hope the Mach 1 isn't just a cross plane GT350. I want it to be the 2016 GT350 base, but with the 3.5L from the raptor (470hp/510ft-lbs) and 10spd auto. Slightly downsize the brakes so you can do 275 wide tires up front over 18" stock rims, and slightly less overdamped struts. Optional Magnaride, and optional GT350 sized supersports. Make it a pure grand tourer in base form, leaving the GT350 as the track toy. That said I bet its a sticker and suspension package for the GT. |

I love my M's, i originally bought my first M3 mostly for the DCT, yup love the cars they look great but i bought a M for the trans, thats how much it matters, maybe not to everyone, but a lot.
So if Fords/GM wants to try to get German car people to buy American muscle, a great trans is one of the biggest parts. I would have bought a GT350 over my M4, except the Trans!
