I read a few years ago that these engines drank oil because BMW didn't use a torque plate when honing the cylinders.

I had mine for 8 yrs and 74000 miles and it was bulletproof. Drank very little oil. I really loved that car. 6 speed, 8200 RPM Redline. Leather/Cloth combo seats. Imola Red paint. Everybody I knew who saw the car loved it.
