BMW dashboard/cockpit direction - will they stand up to competitors?

I still think bmw interior styling is near the bottom of my list, against porsche audi mb . my loaner 5 series looked like it was a 1995 5 series .

I really like gadgety but real tach and speedo. Lexus had led rings as shift lights around thier IS tachs awhile back which I loved. I'd like to see more intricate tech but not just a screen.
