i Pod Hi-Fi

Went to the Mac store today and the new Hi-Fi i Pod stereo was there. I pressed "menu" and what do you know starts playing, my favorite song, "Seven days in Sunny June" by Jamiroquai. Anyways, just wondered if anyone else has checked it out? The sound quality is uber and I think it's totally worth the $349 penalty. This will most definately replace my current stereo setup.

Ooh. Fellow Jamiroquai fan!

I have the hi-fi - it's very expensive and it should have had built-in wi-fi, but it does have a big sound for a (relatively) small unit. It does sound great. . .

I like that it's portable, but keep in mind it weighs about 20 lbs with batteries.

True but the sound is off the chain and so natural at the same time.

Maybe Christamas or my B-day this year? I'd have to choose my b-day since it's sooner than Christmas

Jamiroquai rocks!!!!!!

iPOD plug

I like the idea of a plug in station, but it seems like a tweener...too big for my nightstand too small for a real stereo. Last night I started burning mp3 discs using iTunes and got 100 songs on the same one! (probably could fit about 150). I like the iPod in the car via Aux, though I'm starting to think than if I can fit 150 songs on one mp3 disc then I might as well ride with just a few of those, as I can manipulate tracks from the steering wheel buttons.

Does it sound better than the Bose?

The Hi-Fi sounds quite impractical for several reasons.

First of all, if you have an extensive music collection on your iPod, that would imply you have an extensive music collection on your computer, by most cases. Unless you have a laptop, most desktops are already equipped with speakers that suffice and even if you don't have speakers, they are equipped with aux-out so that you can hook your computer up to your home stereo system.

Now, if you don't have a home stereo system or speakers for your computer, then it's questionable whether you truly love music.

It's not like the Hi-Fi is practically meant for portability, either. Boomboxes suffice for that and may very well cost a whole lot cheaper.

Yep. Some of the Bose style systems at least make sense for form (built in alarm clock) and size (to put on a nightstand).

If you want it for an ipod based bedroom system, I think you could get much better performance for less money with a Sonic T-amp and a pair of bookshelf speakers.

What is the main thing that you like about it? Is it the look or what it does?

Itunes music isn't CD quality...it's a "high quality" 128k bitrate file.

It's a bunch of BS when you're paying $.99 a song for less-than-CD quality music.

I can hear the cymballs swishing in an itune file listening to it on my Polk Audio speakers

I agree, but iTunes *the program* can be used to burn CDs into lossless formats, as well.
