Anyone ever gone back to DCT?

So you often read about people who move from manual to DCT/PDK etc, and then ending up missing manual and moving back...

but anyone on here ever gone from manual to DCT, then back to manual and then miss DCT such that you went back to it?

I have both. When I drive, I almost always go with the manual. But if I had to choose to own only one, I’d choose the dct.

I must say that the DCT transmission suits the S65 quite well and I wouldn't blame anyone for wanting one over a manual, especially if the car was a daily driver.

I sold my M3 DCT not too long ago for a different manual car, and I think if I were to go back to another E9X M3, it would be a 50/50 split between wanting manual or DCT. You really can't go wrong with either.

Yes, however on different platforms. My 135i was DCT, I then purchased a beater RSX-S to see if I would enjoy DDing a manual, and I ultimately went with DCT on the M3. Would love to be rcracin who has both so I could pick!

I don't fit your question exactly, but.....

I have the Z4MC manual and had a Passat DD with DSG.
After the Passat experience, I thought I'd NEVER buy a DSG/DCT/PDK car again.
I disliked the Passat DSG a LOT!
It got to the point where I never drove it in manual mode.

So, when I started looking for an E92M3, I definitely had 6spd in mind.
After testing a couple of DCT cars, I completely changed my mind & I'm sure PDK would be even better.

Its a simple thing , but I love how the DCT still feels like a manual when you stop in traffic or at a light.
It's completely in neutral and the car will roll if on a hill.
When you take off you actually feel the clutch pack engaging.

...BUT.... I still have the best of both worlds with 2 toys in the garage.
One 6spd and one DCT.

I have both as well and find myself enjoying the dct much more even as a weekend car. I do drive it in "manual" mode everytime but its nice to have if i don't feel like playing around, i just flick it to D and sit back and relax.

I think in 2018, you couldn't pay me to drive a manual... drove someone's sti the other day and considered slicing my wrists 5 minutes later.

Haha. It will never solve it. Manual all the way for me.
I've had many cars over the years and always end up going back to a manual. If I had the garage space, I would prob have both thou. (Dct for the wife)

Had e92 with DCT, loved it so much that I got F82 with DCT with not even thinking twice about it.

I do have a classic BMW with a manual though, for those times when Im nostalgic

True... I had a E12 530i 4 Speed manual...lol
But my F82 is DCT
... Well... I don't see any reason to buy a manual M3/M4 🤔

no one has gone from manual to dct to manual then back to dct
many have gone from manual to dct then back to manual
ergo manual is superior

that in no way shape or form supports what you just said lol...

and clearly manual isn't superior when every car with a dct variant is quicker than it's manual counter part.

Worst argument ever. Using that logic, a single speed P100D is faster than nearly all DCT cars, so it's f'ing awesome. Everyone buy electric!

If a few tenths of a second was all that mattered we'd all be driving Vettes and Teslas.

My manual GTI is slower than every BMW I've owned and driven from the wrong end, but only the M Coupe was more fun.

exept the comment was "superior" the factual data supports a DCT is in fact superior to the manual. Just to be a few tenths of a second if you want to use drag racing as the mark is car lengths apart depending on the speed lol..

No kidding? I'd have never known that without your valuable input. I have yet to receive a pay check for my track days or just hitting a perfect trail braking apex entering the highway. When they start rolling in, I suppose I'll look into these awesome DCTs. Until then, I'll keep putting my money into what I enjoy.
