Meet the C-5 Galaxy

Interesting old video, no longer the largest aircraft in the world but still an important plane.

Good video, interesting aircraft. I didn't know this, but apparently they were not in active service the last few years.

Watch this C-5 land in Zurich, 2018.

She's a screamer!

Where did you read that? The C-5M Super Galaxy is designed to have a service life beyond 2040.

Edit: I guess you're referring to the landing gear issue that had them grounded temporarily. They're in service again.

No, but I misunderstood and apparently the active fleet was just downsized for a while. You can google "c5 galaxy active service" and there are a bunch of articles on the subject.

My uncle was a mechanic on those at Dover and then later a safety officer for the base. The C5 has a special place in my heart. I remember as a 11yo him giving me a tour. I was in awe of the absolute size of that beast.

Fast forward the clock, recently I took my 8yo son to Dover for a tour and he was awestruck too!!

Yes, you have to see one in person to really appreciate a plane you can play football inside of. Could probably run an autocross inside it if you set it up properly.

No longer the biggest, but I wouldn't ride in the Antonov An-225 Mriya -- the largest aircraft by weight, length and wingspan.

The issues with this plane (the C-5) have been broken wing spars and the landing gear.
But watching them do corkscrew landings a few years ago neat Kelly afb was neat.
Don't 2 of these planes still carry the presidents stuff when he travels abroad? Cars and such?

Good ol' C5 Galaxy... I wonder how much hearing loss I can attribute to that insanely loud engine whine....

The C-5 is a massive pain in my ass. Great jet when it comes to capabilities. It’s too bad there are quieter than C17s now.

I have a buddy in the AF who was a mechanic, now load master, for C5's. I got a really intimate tour of the plane. I was able to crawl all the way up the tail and out of the top where the "bullet" is. It was amazing and then kinda freaky to know you were three stories off the ground and that what you just climbed WAY the hell up into actually flies through the air...
