I’m unclear on whether BMW actually is taking aim at the 570S. The comments about “McLaren baiting” are the author’s words, not the bmw rep’s.
But if they are, awesome. If they’re creating a i8 2.0 like the person above me said, then please just trash that idea |

file:///C:/Users/OEM/Downloads/BMW_7_Series_iPerformance_EN.pdf At 1000rpm there is a 250nm difference between the petrol engine only and the two engines combined. But for most of the rpm range it is only 100nm and at 6500rpm it is only about 75nm. Similar story with power, the gap between the two lines varies with a gap of about 35kw to about 50kw total. But remember that in the 740e if the electric motor only is working it can be producing 83kw and 250nm, a slightly different spec again.

What? The FF and GTC4 Lusso have a two speed gearbox driven off the front of the engine's crank. The M5 just has a normal transfer case at the end of the gearbox sending power to the front wheels just like every 4wd north-south engined car in the world apart from the FF and GTC4 Lusso.

There could be an i8s with a 225kw and 450nm i4 2.0 engine which is the same spec as the X2 35i quite easily. This is 55kw and 130nm more than the B38 engine currently in the i8 and it could fit without a full rebuild of the chassis. The new engine could also be paired with the 8 speed auto in the X2 and would provide a substantially increased level of performance.
However if we are talking about a full new car, I would have thought the S63TU would have been a better fit north-south and replacing the rear seats as it is quite a bit shorter than the B58 (or S58?) will be. That engine mounted north-south with a 7 speed DCT combined with the current 2 speed electric engine and gearbox at the front would be fantastic. Just give it a decent sized petrol tank - 75-90l would be ideal for the car's purpose as a GT.

Treasure the time when you still have a combustion engine driven car to enjoy.

Well, we did get a hint a while back that a M1 like successor is in the plan, so it's probably just a matter of time, hopefully the world economy won't control that timeframe decision too much.

We have heard this before. Let's see if it actually comes to fruition. The world economy is due for another recession very soon. BMW might start making excuses again.

Yeah, back in the days they said that they don't need a supercar because „the M6 already is a supercar." Judging by that mentality they are going to give us the fugly iNext and claim that it's a supercar because of range or what not.
I don't believe it until I see a prototype. |

This is my best guess as to why it won't actually happen. By the time they are in planning/development or whatever we will have been struck by the next recession which is well on its way IMO.
