dude idk, its generally good practice to not be in your car when it's being pumped

in turkey you have attendants because unemployment through the roof but even there i step out and wait until it's ready to go
You've got me curious as to why it's "good practice" to not be in your car when filling up.

I can't think of a single reason myself, and I've never seen any nj news stories where there was a problem with a person inside their car (with bmws, if you lock from the inside, the fuel filler door stays unlocked ) while getting gas.

I'd much rather have my daughter sitting locked in her car getting gas from an attendant than to be on display out of her car pumping her own.

Do you NJ folks tip the attendant or no?

Any time I'm driving through on my way to AC, it feels like a tip is pretty much expected (maybe cuz MD plates though..??)

I never tip, but I go to Wawa in NJ to get gas and most of the people there are rude. Plus, these days I never have cash on me which is good an bad, since I use to tip people cash all the time who do a good job verse putting on the check and then having to pay taxes on it.

No but I pretty much always go to the same 2 gas stations all the time and always give out gifts Christmas time to my regular guys.

But never feel obligated to tip them for doing their job.

Personally, I feel no sympathy towards young adults/elders that jaywalk and get killed. They should have the most common sense out of everyone.
I'm a mother and a walking enthusiast and I agree with this poster.

All kids here are equipped with those shiny bits in their clothes thanks to eu regulations. All kids here walk alone to school from 7 years and up. All adults who get to drive are taught how hard it is to see a person that is not wearing a reflector in the dark before they are given a driving licence.

Now you know how hard it is to see a person without one, but you think you're so fucking special you glow from within?

Darwin.

in all honesty my dad said to always wait outside in case something catches on fire so it kinda stuck with me...

besides, when the attendant fills your car and you're sitting in it they wipe your windows and all that stuff so you feel bad and tip them and i just prefer to use my coins for parking instead of that

Yeah, that doesn't really happen (much/ever) .

I'm glad your dad has a good imagination and cared enough about you to share that with you to keep you safe though

Here it's their job so no need to feel bad or tip, but can understand it's not like that everywhere.

OP- sorry ...back to jerks jaywalking now

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the U.S. has a coin that's worth more than $0.25 (in regular circulation)...is that correct?

If so, is it bad that I read the above bolded in a old Grandma voice "Now here's a quarter sonny, don't go and spend it all in one place..." and pictured you doing that?

they dont, but in illinois there's also no attendant

in turkey we have 1TL coins, it's basically the dollar bill for us which is super useful when you're buying something that isn't 5/10/20/50/100/200tl (aka single bill)

Yes, I agree that is useful. In Canada, we have $1 and $2 coins which are useful for the same reasons.

American currency on the other hand...not useful. And yet the whole world wants it.

And I always have to stare at the bill first to make sure I know the denomination, no real colour difference. I'm slow eh - I like the colour coded difference Canada has so I know exactly what bill it is.

I believe that, but in my post that you quoted I did specifically qualify that I was speaking about those coins in "regular circulation", so my comment stands!

The way I understand it... any traffic related loss (car moving or not, second car involved or not, on public roads or not, doesn't matter).
Say you're backing up your car in your own drive way and hit a tree. It's collision. Say you're parked in some parking lot and someone backs into you. Collision.
A deer may not net you "at fault" points, but it's collision, unless the deer ran into your parked car.
Comprehensive would be someone keying or stealing your car.

Since here in America we are expected to tip everybody and everything (the Europeans have a ball with the American sucker tourists), why not tip the government (via extra taxes)?

In PA with State Farm deer is comprehensive.

https://www.statefarm.com/insurance/...nsive-coverage

Now if you swerve to miss the animal and hit something else that is collision.

From an Australian perspective, we have a pedestrian right of way rule. From what I understand some US States also have this rule.

It says, no matter what, if you hit a pedestrian with your car, you're at fault.

Now, in reality, this just means your mandatory 3rd party medical insurance will pay for the injured party(s), and your insurance premium might go up.

But, if you're *really* at fault - like you're speeding, drunk or driving through a red light, you're going to be facing civil charges for damages and criminal charges for endangering other people's lives.

Thankfully, in Australia we have free medical anyway and damages typically only pay for actual costs, so we don't have to put up with this shite:

I’m doing probably 35 in the middle lane with a car to my right one car length behind other wise no traffic. I’m passing by a hospital on the left hand side but even so the amount of street lights is pretty sparse. All of a sudden a 50s-ish dude in dark clothes appear in front of my headlights and I stomp on the brakes and am less than 5 feet from him as he panics and dashes past my car and then almost gets hit by the car next to me, who also slam on their brakes even though I’m sure they couldn’t see him.

At this point both of our cars had set off from a red light about a 1/4 mile ago and the guy has jaywalked more than half the road and has plenty of time to see us coming. More than that, we’re much easier for him to spot at night than he is for us to see.

I’m curious as to wether any liability or how much would have been to me in situations like this?

It drives me crazy when they do this! It also drives me even more crazy when they just start walking in the cross walk regardless of cars coming or not. When I was in Hawaii they did it all the time and usually every year there were probably close to hundred deaths from it. Even if I'm crossing in a cross walk I wait until I know that all the cars have seen me and are slowing down. It's a cross walk not a force field. Plus in my opinion if you get hit by car because you weren't smart enough to look both ways and make sure you could safely get across, you deserve it. Pretty sure we all learned that when we were in Kindergarten. Just saying!
