Fast forward to now, a base X1 with it's tall frumpy station wagon shape mated to a 4 cylinder with automatic transmission could do it in 6.3 seconds. Given enough time, a standard Toyota Corolla will be doing 0-60 in 3 seconds.

Yesterday I saw a standard Toyota camery with 4 exhaust pipe in the parking lot.

Which is a pretty good example of the fact that numbers don't tell the whole story of a car. Check out Chris Harris review of his own old, ratty M5. It feels good. It sounds good. Who cares if it's not a 4 second car

Rear wheel drive, no traction control, no ABS, no launch control, no assisted steering. Back then you had to be a ‘driver’ to drive one of these cars.
