Right, BMW forums are the only ones where people tinker with cars, that's why we have the fastest ones on the street...
All bs aside, I've only ever been part of BMW forums; M3Forum, E46Fanatics, XOutpost, and this one so I have zero basis for comparison for anything else...talk about brand loyalty...or fanboy-ism...whatever. Last edited by mirob; 05-15-2019 at 10:03 AM.. |

I do believe BMW engineers know what they're doing and they incorporated some safety and reliability margin into the components. You wouldn't know it from all plastic parts being used for engine component. I would stay away from M cars as I value reliability over performance. But I would gladly swap out parts that are broken with superior components once the original ones have broken down. (or at least parts that were equipped on a higher optioned car)

When I worked for Tesla I'd frequent their forums.
Total dweeb-fest. Just a bunch of rich nerds.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

As if dealing with those geeks in person wasn't already enough for me.

While their "you must post 10 times before you can start a thread" is a little annoying, the site is great for cheap easy DIY info on a car that is simple and easy to inexpensively modify. Plus, lots of people like to show and tell there. Part of the reason I'm looking for a 4Runner to daily now is their forum experience!
