What I love about owning a BMW

I'm long-time BMW owner, 30+ years. Been turning wrenches on them even longer. What I love about BMW is you can own a 20 year old model, 30 years or longer even, and go on-line to RealOEM.com drop in the last 7 of the VIN, and practically get any part from BMW you need. Today, on my wife's 22 year old Z3 M44 Roadster, I just replaced the charcoal canister. It was reasonably priced at just over $100. An easy install, which took about 35 minutes. While under the hood, I noticed the hood sound insulation was spent. A mouse decided to use some for a nest... Surely BMW would have stopped production on that part. Nope just ordered it, $128 and the plastic rivets for it too.

Then you can use newTIS.com for DIY instructions to top it off.

This is why owning a BMW is worth it.

You can do the same with a Honda as well
And they don't cost $128 for hood insulation

20 year old Hondas had hood insulation? LOL

I checked for the hood sound absorber for an '89 E30, still available from BMW. I checked for the sound absorber for an '89 Integra, no longer in stock... I had both cars back in the day.

I didn't find a Honda parts site that you enter a partial VIN and get a parts list. Maybe there is one...

I've personally never found any equivalent to realoem & newtis, I always end up calling the dealer to get torque specs since forums are all over the place

dont want to spoil your mood but you can do this almost with all brands..

Totally agree, until someone decides to pull the plug on our pleasure. Aka copyright cops. I even use it at work because it is so much faster to find the info i need quickly rather than row through all the menus

That's why I went out and found a BMW ISTA crack/software DL. If newTIS goes down I can plug ISTA to my car and have all the same info. It's been longer to load compared to online tho but it's a really good backup.

OP, I used realOEM.com for pretty much everything I need for my E36 M3. Love that site.

From lots of brands the parts manuals, workshop manuals and OEM diagnostic software can be had one way or another.
I think the bmw workshop manual is pretty good compared to lots of other brands. The software and parts manuals are equivalent I think to lots of other brands.

However that BMW has an official portal (webetk) to the parts manuals (so the realoem equivalent, but then from BMW ag themselves and giving customers access to it), is pretty unique. I havent seen that in another brand.

As for parts prices, some bmw parts prices have gone through the roof (increasing a ten fold in ten years for exactly the same part....) but I guess every brand has these excesses.

RealOEM is awesome. It's the same reason I like John Deere. Yes they are expensive, but I can walk into a dealership and they will have parts in stock for a 1960's garden tractor.

I haven't found anything close for Honda and Toyota.

Plus what i have found on usually part sites, their diagrams suck compared to the RealOEM ones.

I have used bmw since 2016 year and I would like to say that is the best brand car. These cars have one of the most beautiful design and a high quality. I'm really satisfied with it

This is why owning a BMW is worth it. __________________ A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
