Does every insurance claim get reported to CarFax?
Got some road rash, considering a claim to get the hood / bumper repainted. However I don't want it to show up on carfax as an accident. I'm not trying to be deceitful but don't want it to be reflected inaccurately. As you know a carfax will drop value an easy 10% at trade in if not more. TIA.

All insurance claims including minor, not-at-fault accidents and small glass claims goes one something called a CLUE report or Comprehensive Loss and Underwriting Exchange.
CLUE shares data with LexisNexis, of whice Carfax obtains information from. This should answer your question. https://personalreports.lexisnexis.c...disclosure.jsp https://www.insurance.wa.gov/clue-co...iting-exchange |

A minor tap on the rear of my 135 last year, no police report, told my insurance about it, claim processed through other party's USAA, does NOT show on Carfax. Was suprised, even the local dealer has it logged in their vehicle history.

What do you mean by road rash? Are you sure it is covered by insurance vs. wear and tear?
If you are putting in a claim, I’d assume it will appear on CarFax. It may not say accident. It could say something like “front end damage” which isn’t any better. If you are buying a car, on the other hand, I would not assume that 100% of previous owners’ insurance claims are on CarFax.

They don't all get reported. Carfax used to be awful - four or five used cars in a row I bought had work done to them and it was not on the Carfax. I have heard it is better now, but I would never assume Carfax is accurate.

No, they don't get all reported. I checked one of my old cars for fun that I had since new. I had two insurance claims on it, one accident, and one comprehensive. Only the comprehensive claim showed up.

Yeah, I had a car with multiple insurance repairs through the BMW body shop and none showed up on CarFax. Amusingly the one repair I paid cash to fix was on the report.

Used cars are used cars. CarFax doesn't change that.
Buying a used car is always a crapshoot.

It's funny how people stay away from cars that had minor damages and only want 1 owner cars. Few years ago I checked out a car that was 1 owner no accidents and when I looked at it, it looked like car was a total loss cheaply put back together
I used to work at the dealership and many crazy mofos were buying cars under $5k wouldn't even look at them if Carfax showed 1 accident on it. I mean who in the right mind cares about that when buying some 2002 Hyundai for $3k lol Last edited by Kolyan2k; 08-11-2019 at 06:10 PM.. |

Hit or miss. I owned a 2013 GLI from new. Had one incident from road debris that ripped open the passenger side door about three years in. No ding to the CarFax despite me filing a claim. However, a mysterious "accident" showed on the CarFax within the first year of my ownership that certainly never happened. Stuck on the car's record throughout my four or so years of ownership and never found out why.

I wrecked my Corvette C7 by hitting a raised manhole on I-94 in Michigan in the middle lane. There was no way to change lanes of course. There were traffic on left and right lanes and semi-truck following me so I tried to straddle this structure. It ended up gutting the bottom of my car. They had to replace everything underneath by removing the transmission, suspension, exhaust and fuel tank. There was about $20K in damages. I ended up trading the car with just 500 miles on it. The dealer printed out a Carfax and all it said was pothole damage. Pothole indeed. LOL

I ran a tire (with rim) the other day on I-95 (couldn't change lane last minute either), since nothing happened, I continued..., maybe I should go to some shop to just have it raised to check out if anything happened
