We all watch racing and we all hear the commentators. Sometimes brilliant, sometimes cringy and occasionally maddening. I'm watching the 2019 Mexican GP as I type this and get a little housework done and just hear Martin Brundle describe the Ferrari in turns:

"Understeering like a cross-channel ferry."

Later:

"Flat spotted those tires...they don't like being shoved down the track at 100 mph without rotating. (Max re-passing Sainz)

In the German GP of 2018

"Lewis Hamilton in your mirrors driving the works Mercedes is worth about half-a-second a lap."

What other memorable, funny, or vexing messages stuck with you from racing commentators.

I can't wait for the season to start.

WOWIE!! 20 years that's like a lifetime in racing, well you've got to say a lot of fans will be hoping things will even out a lot in '20 and as you have hinted Merc race strategy and running sequence has been very efficient with just a few mistakes compared to the others.

I met Martin while he was still an F1 driver...got a ride round Donnington with him at the wheel in a Ford Sierra.

I met and hung out with DC at the German Grand Prix many years ago. Hilarious and a very serious party animal. Trust me...you can't hang. Longest next day that I can remember.

I remember at the end of the Turkish GP in one of it's last runnings the podium ceremony was taking place and as Bob Varsha was introducing all of the officiants, David Hobbs stepped all over him when a gentleman named Rifat Samethingunpronouncable steps up and Hobbo goes, "As yes, here we have Rifat Umgobulululululululu from the Ministry of Transportation" and without breaking form Varsha says, "Please send all complaints about Mr. Hobbs to Hobbs Honda in Wherever, Ohio attention: David Hobbs.

Literally the jokester and the straight man. It was priceless.

We had visitors from Europe recently for a short time, a family of three and the brother-in-law of my wife has the same symptoms.He had an operation some years ago but it still came back apparently.

I ought to make a comment about F1 commentators and I relate to Murray Walker a lot.
A favourite of mine is ''There's nothing wrong with the car except that it's on fire''.
Another one ''Either the car is stationary, or it's on the move''.
To finish ''He can't decide whether to keep his visor half open or half closed''.

I met Leigh Diffy and Steve Matchett at a private car collection featuring Porsche as the manufacturer of focus several years ago and they are really great guys...real car lovers and lovers of racing history. Pretty cool experience.
