The Geneval Auto Show has been cancelled due to concerns over the Coronavirus. However, BMW's biggest planned reveal - the Concept i4 - will still take place via a live streaming press conference.

Munich. Due to the current situation, the Geneva International Motor Show 2020 has been canceled. While we certainly understand this decision, we also regret that the fair cannot take place as usual.

The BMW Group will carry out the program planned for Geneva including the world premiere of the BMW Concept i4 at a digital press conference with CEO Oliver Zipse in Munich at the originally scheduled time (Tuesday, March 3, 2020, 8.15 a.m. CET) and broadcast it via live stream. Further details concerning the live broadcast will follow as soon as possible.

There is a Coronavirus outbreak in Italy so it makes sense to cancel this event. The Italian carmakers would have had to cancel and it is for public health and safety, unlike Iran where they decided to leave public mosques open and not quarantine the hardest hit region.

I cancelled my trip some days ago. Sorry, but Italy has an issue and cases in Europe (also here in Germany) increase. I'm not in panic mode, but Genf is in the middle of it and would have visitors from all over the world incl. China.

Other manufacturers have pulled out saying they don’t want to suffer the same terrible affliction, choosing instead to laugh at BMW from afar

Thats because our government decided to forbid all events with more than thousand people on last Friday.

At the moment we have only 27 confirmed infections (8 in Geneva), mostly people that came back from the region of Milano which is not far from our southern border. Also the famous big carneval of Basel that would have started tomorrow at 6 am has been canceled.

It's a heavy restriction that also weakens our economy, but I guess it's not wrong to be careful now. Hope the live stream will be provided redundant enough.
