Safety in numbers for speeding drivers
BEIJING (Reuters) - Speeding drivers in south China are getting clear away thanks to machines which switch the numbers on their licence plates in seconds, state media said on Tuesday.
"More than 50 percent of cars caught on camera for speeding and other offences either cover up their plates or use a fake licence plate," a traffic policeman in the Guangdong city of Yangjiang was quoted by the Beijing Youth Daily as saying. "Our chances of capturing them is next to nil." The price of the remote-control device starts at around 800 yuan ($115), while a more advanced apparatus with the ability to flip over the numbers in less than three seconds costs more than double. "The era of covering up the licence plate by hand has passed," a driver surnamed Zheng told the newspaper. "It's really convenient and economical too," a salesman who specializes in such devices in the provincial capital of Guangzhou was quoted as saying. In April, Xinhua news agency reported that China had confiscated thousands of fake military vehicles and number plates in a move to crack down on citizens masquerading as privileged members of the People's Liberation Army. In years past, Chinese counterfeiters have used fake military vehicles to ship bootleg cigarettes and other goods, previous reports have said. http://www.reuters.com/article/oddly...K2077420080507 --------- Anyone know where I can buy those? :P

this only helps with the speed cameras.... but in terms of being pulled over... what the hell are you going to do wen u pass over ur registration? i mean yheah u can change the plate back, but wouldnt the popo notice? they will be right behind you till you come to a stop. the only time to change it is wen they walk up next to u, and their on board camera would catch them...
i dont encourage this... too many risks.

3 seconds is to long. Someone could easily see the plates being flipped around haha, and what if you notice the speed trap to late?
Plus in so cal ive never seen speed cameras. |

They probably don't have laws against it over there. Here if you have something to switch your license plate like that your ass is going to jail which is why it's not widespread.

Good idea, but sounds too risky. You would need the one that is on the BMW in the Transporter! That would be perfect. Over here in Germany, all you have to be careful of is camera's. I see maybe 1 cop per week on the autobahn, but thats when i am flying past him in an unmarked zone
