So £35k + Import duty at 8% on a new car, then shipping and registration at £600 that you have to pay for plus tax at 17.5% = £45120. How much is it new over here with discount?? |

It is not worth it, you can get 8% discount of a UK one, or even more from a Euro import if you want an imported car, and far easier to deal with someone in say the Netherlands who has sold to the UK before.

i would import if it saves me a few $$$. I wanted to go used, but for that "extra amount" of money, if i can get a new one, might as well. |

Just remember selling on a used car in a year or two with two owners will not affect the value, selling on an import will. What you save up front will be wiped out at the other end.
Speak to your dealer, they will discount if pushed hard, trade is on its arse, worse sales for years at the moment, so haggle hard and they will move. |

I'm not so sure to be honest.... I had a 320d E90 for 2 years which averaged 37.6 mpg..... The current 320i E92 is averaging 32 mpg.... I'm inclined to think that some engines will get far closer to official figures than others...in particular I'd guess that the diesels are far more reliant on a good percentage of motorway cruising than the petrols... But I could be wrong.... ![]()

Bound to be the case since diesel efficiency is all about running at part load.

...which means that if you dont do that kind of mileage, you will be disappointed with the diesel consumption....

Totally agree. Diesels like to be kept at a constant rpm to get their combined figures, so sat crusing at 60mph, petrols will get their combined figure alot easier, ok so maybe not the combined figure but somewhere between urban and combined. The diesel will drop down to urban figures pretty easily, only needs a few roundabouts, traffic lights, junctions and a bit of traffic, and let's face it this is driving in the UK these days. All my petrol cars have been less than 10% below the official combined figures, all the diesels have been no more than 10& above the offical urban figures, thats what makes the gap between petrol and diesel even smaller than official figures would have you believe and is why we are now questioning it. |
